Lt(N) Deck
Cadet Affiliation: Lieutenant (Navy), Royal Canadian Sea Cadets
Lt.(N) Kevin Deck joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets with #145 RCSCC MEDICINE HAT, Medicine Hat, AB, in April 1982. During his time as a Cadet, he attended summer training camps across Western Canada taking courses such as Adventure Training, Sailing, Junior Leadership and the 8 week Practical Leadership course at HMCS Quadra CSTC. During his advancement in the Corps, he served as a Divisional Petty Officer, Guard Petty Officer, Gunner, and Coxswain. He also received numerous awards, including the Best Overall Cadet award for three consecutive years. In 1987, he became a Civilian Instructor with the Corps, and soon afterward enrolled as an Officer with the rank of Midshipman. Kevin first served as the Administration Officer, then for several years as the Training Officer, as well as becoming the Executive Officer. In June 1994, Kevin was appointed Commanding Officer of #145 MEDICINE HAT.
In September 1997, after a successful three year term as a Commanding Officer, Kevin's civilian career as a TV video editor / graphics artist brought him to the west coast. He joined #195 RCSCC BICKNELL, in Richmond BC, in October 1997. Throughout his time with 195 BICKNELL, Kevin served as an Instructor, a Divisional Officer, and the Executive Officer. Kevin was appointed Commanding Officer of 195 BICKNELL in September 2001. Kevin stepped down from command of 195 BICKNELL in December 2002, as he and his wife were expecting a baby. He now has 2 young daughters as well as a teenaged step-son who is a Sea Cadet at 201 RCSCC
GRILSE. After some leave time, Kevin started working for the Regional Cadet Support Unit (Pacific)
as an Area Information Technology Advisor (AITA), basically a computer support Officer to several Vancouver area Cadet units.
In June 2007, Kevin took command of 201 RCSCC GRILSE, and is now
full steam ahead in his third command.
Kevin was invited to join the Cadet-World staff because we needed a geek, and, well, he is one. He brings with him a varied skill set and a love for solving problems. His civilian job is as the Director of Technical Services for a company specializing in computer digital video hardware. He even met his wife online. Kevin helps push the shiny buttons on CW's back end to keep the forum running smoothly and bring new features and modifications to the site. Don't get on his bad side unless you want strange things to happen to your user profile...
