CPO2 Britt-Lynn Oxendale

I joined the cadet program in September of 2000 with RCSCC #320 TRINITY, Burns Lake, BC, Canada. I was originally considering joining army cadets when some guy in green showed up to my school saying how cool it was. However, my mom said I should join sea because a friend of the family (who I now can't stand) was there. I'm a bandsman by trade, having attended TG1 at HMCS QUADRA, BC, and TG2 at HMCS ACADIA, NS. In cadets, I play the flute, but outside of cadets I also play trumpet in a jazz band, and flute in a concert band. My Dad's the band teacher so I don't exactly have much choice with the latter.

By far, my favourite experiences in the cadet program have been attending NorthSail for the last three years. Basically, it's a bunch of cadets from northern BC (where it's too darn cold to sail) who get the privilege of travelling to Victoria and sailing for a solid week during Spring Break. But the sailing isn't the best part. We have activities every night, and it really makes the northern people get to know each other... whether they want to or not.

My proudest cadet moment would have to be Remembrance Day, 2002. It was my first time ever in front of a division and my cadets were just perfect. I was so proud of them and it made me feel amazing! My most embarrassing moment, however, would be the night before the drill competition in 2003. I went up to the front to go to get one of my cadets who'd just arrived and my pants were a little too long (they were not cadet pants). I stepped on my pants and the fell down in front of about 50 cadets.

My biggest influence in the cadet program has been Lt(N) Cyr. She helps me with all of my problems. If I don't know something that I need to know about cadets or if I'm just super-nervous, I just call her and she tells me what I need to know. When I sat my chief board I found out 30 minutes before I had to leave for cadets that I was sitting it that night, I phoned Lt(N) Cyr and I was sooooo much less nervous for it (but I was still very nervous).

I joined CW in August 2002, after I was told about it by a girl on TG1 with me.
