General Training or GT is a Royal Canadian Army Cadet Summer Training course offered at Cadet Summer Training Centres across Canada.
Course BackgroundPrior to the introduction of the Cadet Program Update (CPU) in September 2008, GT was known as Basic Army Cadet, or Basic and the 2-week Basic course and the 3-week Basic Marksman, Military Band and Pipes & Drums courses were organized together. Now, the Marksman, Military Band and Pipes & Drums courses are organized under Army Cadet Familiarization Training and General Training is in its own category of Army Cadet Summer Training courses. The Aim of General TrainingThe aim of the General Training course is to familiarize cadets with the Army Cadet Summer Training Program and to motivate them toward pursuing further Army Cadet Training. Course InformationThis course is 2 weeks in length. It is offered three times during the summer to three separate groups of cadets at most Army Cadet Summer Training Centres. All cadets participating in the training of the Cadet Program Update (CPU) beginning in 2008 will attend General Training before proceeding to further Summer Training. Course BadgeThe course badge is circular in design with circle at the edge of the badge. In the centre of the circle, lies a single upwards pointing arrow. The cirle and arrow is in Canadian Forces gold thread. The badge is worn on the right sleeve of the Army Cadet Uniform, one (1) centimetre (cm) above the cadet's star level qualification. If there is not star level qualifiation, the course badge will be sewn eight (8) centimetres (cm) above the sleeve's cuff.
