Cadet Program Update

In 2008 the Cadet Program Update (CPU) was officially implemented for the first year of cadet training and will continue each year until 2012 when the program update is complete. The update addresses both local training and summer training, re-evaluating and re-designing the entire training system for all three elements.
Goals
The update was created with several goals which are intended to help revitalize the program and improve retention.
Method of Instruction
The method of instruction is being modified into a more guided interactive lesson for both the cadets and the instructor in order to help maintain the interest of the cadets. Classes will begin to be taught from an Instructional Guide (IG) as well as Qualification Standard and Plan (QSP). These will give the instructor a strict guideline to follow during the class. Instructional periods have been shortened to 30min. Cadets will begin to experience more citizenship tours and exercises during the year at the home unit.
Non-Elemental Training
Another goal of the CPU was to bring the non-elemental training in line between the three elements. Some of the subjects which are common to the three elements, such as citizenship, physical fitness, and instructional techniques, were previously unique to each elemental program. By brining the common training in line, it will become easier for cadets to transfer between elements, as the transferring cadet will only be lacking the elemental knowledge up to the level at which they transfer.
Additionally, non-elemental summer training subjects which previously were offered unique to each element (or not at all to some elements) were created to ensure equal opportunities to all elements.
