CADETWORLD PRIVACY POLICY

Scope

This policy outlines the data collection, retention and disclosure policy of Cadet-World.com (aka CadetWorld, aka CW.) This policy covers technical collection of access information, the use of browser cookies, presentation and retention of data, and our requirements and usage of personally identifying information. This policy applies to all areas of the website, including but not limited to the Forums (CW Forums), the live chat room (CWchat), the blogs (CWblog) and the wiki (CWwiki.)

Technical Overview

When a visitor to Cadetworld requests or reads a page, no more information is collected than is typically collected by other web sites.

IP Addresses

Access by unregistered visitors or non-logged in members to CadetWorld is logged in the server's access log. This data is not generally monitored or reviewed except in rare circumstances.

Access by registered members who log in to CadetWorld is logged in the forum database. Access by registered members who log in to CWwiki is logged in the wiki database. This data is not generally monitored or reviewed, but may be queried in order to resolve issues of misuse of the site or violation of site rules and policies, such as in cases where it is suspected that multiple accounts are being used by the same individual in a manner which disrupts the site.

Cookies

In order to facilitate the functioning of the website, the software which runs the forum and the software which runs the wiki make use of cookies to track user activity. Those software components set temporary session cookies on a visitor's computer whenever the site is is visted. Readers who do not intend to log in may deny these cookies. If they do not, the cookies will be deleted at the end of the browser's session.

Registered users may log in to CadetWorld Forums with their username and password. The forum software sets cookies to keep a member logged in, track current activity, and remember your last activity. These cookies enable the forum software to show a member new forum posts since their last visit, new personal messages, etc. These cookies will expire at the end of a browser session unless the member chooses to have the cookie stored on their computer by clicking the "Remember Me" option when logging in.

If a registered user logs in to CadetWorld via the CWwiki, these same cookies will be enabled. In the wiki context, they will serve only to keep a member logged in to the site until they log out or the cookie is cleared on the user's end.

It is recommended that members using public or shared computers not use the "Remember Me" option, or log out / clear all cookies after each session in order to prevent misuse of their account.

Membership Account and Personally Identifying Information

Members must identify themselves to the satisfaction of management in order to participate in this website. In order to be approved for membership, a user must provide a first and/or last name, accurate geographic location (city/town, province/state and country), and accurately indicate any Cadet or military affiliation they have. We require this information so that forum comments or wiki contributions/edits are sourced to a reasonably identifiable individual whose rank or position can be ascertained. This information is presented on a member's user profile page. This aids in preventing anonymous posting, impersonation, or misrepresentation of one's rank/position when presenting information. Our goal is that by ensuring someone's identity is attached to their comments or wiki contributions, it will keep the conversation / information honest and professional.

Identifying information presented in a user profile is not visible to the general public, only other registered members can view user profiles.

If a member chooses to indicate identifying information in their "signature block", that information will be visible to the general public.

CadetWorld is under no general obligation to delete membership accounts. Deletion of the user account itself is not necessary to accomplish compliance with privacy laws. If a user chooses to no longer participate at CadetWorld, they may remove their personally identifying information from their user profile and signature block. Users may do this on their own without assistance from CadetWorld staff. By doing this, users will remove all personally identifying information from CadetWorld. If the user's account is named in such a way so as to be personally identifying, the user may request that the account be renamed so as to make the account name more anonymous.

Forum History

Any comments posted to CW Forums are stored in the forum database. In most cases, members may edit or remove those comments at any time. CadetWorld reserves the right to prevent a member from editing or removing their comments by either locking the comments in public view, or by archiving them out of public view. CadetWorld is under no general obligation to edit or remove any members' comments at their own request. By submitting comments to CW forums, members should consider that such comments may be stored permanently at the discretion of the management.

Wiki Page History

Any contribution of content or editing of existing content is permanently stored in the CWwiki database. Deleting text or pages does not permanently delete it, and can be undone by other CW members or CW staff. Users should consider any contributions or editing they do to be permanently recorded.

CadetWorld will not normally release personally identifying information, except in the following circumstances:

1. In response to a valid subpoena or other compulsory request from law enforcement or valid government authority;

2. With permission of the affected user;

3. When necessary for investigation of abuse complaints;
