One could argue the difference between His Holiness and Her Majesty is that the UK could continue to function as a legislative entity in the absence of the Queen, while the Roman Catholic Church cannot without a Pope.

But then, could the Anglican Church function without the Queen? She's the Pope of the non-Papists.

The primate runs the church not the Queen. Queen is just ahead of the church. Pope John Paul II runs and is ahead of the church.

...and why does someone have that Jefferson Starship turned up so loud? (Because clearly, Starship would provide the soundtrack to Hell.)

The Pope

In my Personal opinion and what i can gather from reading all the posts being made I believe since the pope is the FIRST Non Italian Pope and the FIRST ever Polish Pope he will not be giving up the position anytime soon but what i can gather is that he really never fully healed after he was shot but that is my personal opinion.

I doubt the Pope's reason for holding on is because he's the first Polish Pope. Regardless of his background, he's Catholic, and was elected to the position of Pope.

Alright that may have been a bad reason but i suppose you are right in that case, but I am reading his biography, which explains about how he felt when he was elected into the Vatican, but in any case he won't be leaving anytime soon.

He's the first non-Italian in a long time, but not the first non-Italian.

IIRC, St. Peter was the first Pope, and was Galilean (what we would today call "Palestinian"). There have been Popes from all around... Greece, Spain, France, North Africa... I think there was one English Pope too.

Close, but not quite

Some other non-Italian popes include:
Pope Eleuterus (Albania)
Pope Silvester II (France)
Pope Adrian IV (England)
Pope John XXI (Portugal)
Pope Adrian VI (the Netherlands)
Pope Telesphorus (Greece)
Pope Anicetus (Syria)
