Exclamation How To Form A Beret !?!?

This has gotta be the most embarissing question I've ever asked . How do you form a beret. I've worn a glengary all my cadet life so I don't know how. I'm in the RHLI's now and they don't wear glengarys. Any help would be much appriciated.

You can cut the liner out, as it is best to form it. Many people frown agains't that, so I will not "suggest" doing that. Soak it in hot water for a few minutes, then plop it on your head, form it, and wear it all day. A second or third soaking may be required. But that's basically it. Soak it, form it, wear it.

This is how I did my Beret..

And it worked for me perfectly..I think my beret looked almost perfect...

1. Cut the lining out. It's alot more comfortable without the lining.

2. Shower with the Beret on your head. Yes I'm serious..

3. Keep fixing your Beret in the mirror until it looks perfect..

These are jus some of the things I did to keep my Beret formed for all these years....

Oh I miss wearing my Beret... :remember:

and if you need to quickly form it before a parade night. you can soak it in hot water and form it, then use a hair dryer to speed dry it

works very well...and also, if you are afraid of it losing its form while it is wet, then dont wear it you can put it on the edge of the sink or somewhere, where it wont lost its shape or get everything else wet

Personally I have found that keeping the lining in the beret keeps the shape alot longer than if you cut it out... when i shape mine.. i shape it on me head and leave it there till it dries eventually lol.

This is the best method. Although your Corps might get a little mad when they see you've taken the liner out ... Oh well, they're $8 at a Surplus store

Warm water and form it in the mirror, then wear it around the house for a bit and then take it off and let it dry. Leave the lining it, you'll be happy you did later.

It's true. I found that leaving my liner in on my second beret helped it keep its shape later on. It got to the point after a while that I was able to just put it on and walk out, hardly anything to it.

the good thing about removing the liner, is that it is easier to form...the bad is that it does tend to lose it's shape easier.

here is a way to get the best of both worlds

if you take your beret and look at it's right side (when on your head) there are 2 black air holes. Pull the liner out from these holes, and then when you put it on your head, you are able to have the liner still in it to keep shape, but it is pulled away from the right side where your fold it down, to allow for easier forming of this side.

if anyone needs a better description, feel free to PM me

Don't freak out..I'm navy...but when I did mine, I left the liner in (so I could write my name in it) and I soaked it in a half water/half downy solution. The downy really relaxes the wool so it can form nicely (and it smells yummy)...

And I wore it until it was dry

I seem to recall forming mine in Gungod's living room...Liner ripped out, soaked, tossed in the dryer (I'm sure with downy or something), and again, worn until dry.

...just perpetuating a good solution.

excuse me for being the ignorant little sea cadet i am...
but by beret you mean the green cotton caps you guys wear on parade?
and by 'form them' you mean that you guys actually have them form-fitted for your heads?!

Yes, but it's a lot harder to form and takes longer. Taking the liner out and forming it in the shower is what worked for me. O, stealth snake, when forming your baret, don't forget the battle crease (The crease that runs down the left side.) You'll look like a n00b if you don't have that.

A beret is the standard headdress for Army Cadets. Berets are not only green. For army cadets they can be Green, Black, Red, and Maroon.
Forming means creating the appropriate and desired shape, which in part means fitting it to your head. To observe a nicely formed beret, take a peek in my profile. I did all of the things suggested above (including cutting the liner out), and went one step further. An iron, and a whole ton of steam. A summer of staff, and 3 months later, and it's still formed perfectly.

"BATTLE" CREASE!!

i absolutely cannot stand those, whatsoever

and what is the military significance of it i have never heard any stories on it.

i may come off as a bit ignorant, but you can blame that on my highland heritage and my AFU, cuz we don't wear berets once we get a rank of any kind.

I formed my beret by soaking it in warm water, squeezing out the excess water, then dunking it quickly in cold water, then slapping it onto my head and just pulled it into shape. I then wandered around with it on my head until it was reasonably dry, then I left it by the window then wore it some more. It dried out eventually. Not a particularly good bash I am told, but it is enough for me to get away with it.

Actually I find it easier forming the shape of my slouch hat than anything else. I should have a picture of it somewhere....
