Blackdown still looking for Staff Cadets

F.Y.I

Blackdown Cadet Training Centre still has a number of positions for Senior Army Cadets who are CLI and Gold Star qualified. Corps COs are requested to actively promote these jobs by canvassing their Cadets and encouraging applications.

TALK TO YOUR CO FIRST BEFORE TALKING TO THE CAMP

I know of an interested candidate in my corps (ironically it is my brother) ..... he would like to know if he is required to fill out a staff application and/or CF51 and send it in to Blackdown CSTC.

Maybe you should call the Camp and ask why

I don't think we should be encouraging the cadets to call the STC directly.

Use you chain of command, to your Pers O, via your Unit CO.

I don't want to sound rude or anything sir, but I've always been told that staff cadet employment has nothing to do with your unit except for the CO's recommendation. Every time I asked my CO about stuff like that she says she has nothing to do with it. But I could be wrong sir.

Personally, if it were up to me I'd email them and ask. I prefer email b/c they can answer you back at any time, not drop everything to answer your question b/c you're on the phone long distance.

You are correct, Chief, to an extent.

Once your application for employment leaves your COs desk, they have little to do with it. However, you still need their permission to go up the chain externally to Detachment/Region/Summer Training Centre.

Furthermore, if your CO is willing and supports your application process (and why wouldn't they, if they signed it?), a phone call from them saying "WO1 Coomber would be an excellent asset to your team this summer" is bound to be more effective than you calling and saying the same thing.

Speaking as a CSTC Staffing Officer...........

If a cadet calls me direct, I tell them to talk to their Commanding Officer. I do get a number of emails but I don't act on anything unless I speak with a Cadet's CO, Det or region.

I get calls all the time from COs asking if "their" cadets have been hired.

If your CO can't or thinks he/she can't help you, talk to your ACA at Det/Region.

If everyone contacted the Staffing Officers direct, no-one would ever get hired - we would be too busy answering the phone or typing replies to emails to get any staffing done.

If you haven't submitted an application for staff this summer, I'd say, yeah, good time to do it.

Otherwise, consult with your CO to see if they can find out what the staffing situation is at Blackdown, and if you can be utilized there, or somewhere else.

I have already submitted an application for Blackdown and been accepted .... I'm asking for someone else who is considering applying. "Primer" mentioned that Blackdown is still hiring, so I was hoping for a response from him with more information for potential applicants.

I'm guessing the "interested staff cadet" is your brother.........right?

If he was REALLY interested, he should have submitted an application a long time ago. Since Blackdown is apparently having difficulty filling all their positions, they may well entertain an application that is probably 4 months late.

I would have to give a lot of thought to offering a position to someone who applies this late unless there is a REALLY good reason. I feel that it is a slap in the face to those cadets that submitted their applications on time and waited............and waited..............and waited.

Alrite, I'll suggest to him to submit an application. He had other plans for the summer that didn't follow through and he didn't think to apply for staff just in case, so that's why he has now found himself in this situation.

That is one of those REALLY good reasons I was talking about
