Ensure your uniform is spotless, boots like glass etc.
Know the following (I have inside info)
What the NL is and what it provides in support.
The Chain of Command and the Divisional System within your corps... you should be asked questions relating to both.
What CATO is, what PRCI's are and which supercedes the other.
Be able to problem solve a scenario that will test your allegiance to your fellow cadet(s) and officers. (basically what is the RIGHT thing to do??) - it will likely have some CHAP-ness to it...
Take your time to answer the questions (but not TOO long
)

I would like to know what a chief's board is? From what I've been reading, it's a kind of procedure to become a chief petty officer (is this correct).
Anyways, if it is a selection's procedure, I've read rumours of a new selection's procedure coming out this september for D Cdt.Christophe T. Stevenson

26th May 2004 21:15 #9There is a merit board to go from QPO1 to PO1. You may or may not have done one, depending on a few things...I believe your corps was having some difficulties at the time and your CO missed that email

As has been mentioned, they will probably ask you what you least expect. Best thing to do, is to take your time, and think about every answer. Unless the scenario is an emergency, you can take the time you need to answer it. Might want to consider writing down the things they tell you.
Oh, and you should study the chain of command beyond your corps. I don't know if its done everywhere, but everyone at my corps has been quized up to the Queen level.SLt Peter J Hutchison - RCSCC TIGER

I used to visit the corps and conduct boards a while back, before we had 3 ACAs, but now we have enough staff and they get to go do them.
One time, I actually failed one male cadet before the board even started... he decided he didn't need to shave before coming and another cadet I stopped the board from continuing after she informed me the reason she wanted to be a Chief (this was to CPO1, not CPO2) was because she wanted POWER.
Bam, it was over, just like that *snaps fingers*.
I wasn't the nice officer I am today

That was a hard question for me. I ended up saying "because it would be nice." Then I went on to explain that I will do the same job that I would do as a CPO2, as I would as a CPO1, my effort is not guaged by my rank. Besides, I'm a senior cadet, and should be immaculate at all times anyways.

27th May 2004 04:47 #14I heard it on the Francophone Sea Cadet's Forum of Québec. There was a conversation about the role of a selection's officer (which is my post @ my unit) then, the Staff Officer-3 (3) mentioned that there will be a uniform selection procedure that would be coming out. I am wondering if it will be based on the one that my unit has created and summitted to our Cadet Advisor.

This is what I've seen over the years happen at my unit.
When I was a cadet, most of the CPO1 were just chosen. When I was promoted CPO1 in 1999, I was the only choice that the unit had, because I was the only person left that enter the unit between 1994-1996.
In 2001, we created a selection's department at my unit, and the former Selection's officer created a selection's procedure according to the standard found in the CATO 33-01 Annex A for the CPO2s. During the summer of 2002, I was named to become the next selection's officer, and therefore, I had to create a selection procedure, similar to the CPO2, following the standards of the CATO 33-01 Annex A, but for the CPO1.
If any officer are interested, I will be willing to send you a copy, however I will need permission of my CO. The procedure is in French, but I will be willing to re-write it in English. I will create a thread in the wardroom for any officers that are interested to read a description of both procedures.
As for who the SO3(S) is in the Eastern Region, it's Lt(N) Ludger Himbeault, who has just been given a position at the training department at D Cdt.
Good day to all!Christophe T. Stevenson
