Especially since the planes dropping bombs on London are called Gothas.

Just to preempt Juice's Historica Minute, but we were at war with Germany in WW2 as well.

Just a friendly poke from the sometime troll of International Issues.

Yes, we were, but the change of name happened during WWI, that's why I only mentioned it directly

Also in WWII George VI was not facing off against his 1st cousin, like George V was with Wilhelm II.

I would imagine that the change to Mountbatten-Windsor will probably happen.
Ummm - that's already happened. In 1960, at the request of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, the Privy Council declared that the Queen's and Duke's direct descendants would remain part of the House of Windsor but they would carry the surname of Mountbatten-Windsor.

I don't if it's gauche to resurrect an old thread like this, but the change of surname is only for those who actually sport one, ie this would not apply to anyone with an HRH before their name.

That is the case. The House is still the House of Windsor. The Prince of Wales, when the Almighty decides to allow Her Majesty the Queen to rest, may have the name of the House change to honour his father.
