    Sea Regards on the new "Kit Upgrade"

    I am Leading Seaman Christopher Cox, Out of RCSCC 305 Sackville, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

    About last cadet training night, I was assigned the position "Corporal of the Gangway", All the while recording what happened all night, I was talking to the PO who was assigned the duty with me, and he said that there was a Uniform and kit change coming up for the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. I just wanted to leave a couple of questions here. Hopefully someone can Answer them for me.

    I just wanted to ask if this was actually a fact, as I find it very interesting, if that the following upgrades are going to be made to the uniform and/or kit;
    1: Instead of White-Tops, Peak-Caps with White Trim (Instead of Gold)
    2: Dress/CF Shirt and Tie. (Keeping the Tunic)
    3: (I already Know this is a Fact) Badge Changes

    Thanks for responding if you give me one, This is my first official Post.

    These have been long standing rumours that people have been asking about for a long time, if the changes are coming down it will be a good long time before it happens.

    Good Day and Welcome to Cadet World.

    Items 1 & 2 where options on a uniform survey sent out some time ago and that is where the rumor started, Sea cadets will not receive this uniform items. Item 3 Badge changes will occur once the updated Sea Cadet Dress Regulations are approved.

    We do not have a timeline yet for when they will be released.

    The new badges are now the only ones available on Logistik. Just waiting for the how and where to wear.

    I think the uniform would look nicer with the upgrades (But the Sea Cadet head dress stands out) as far as the dress shirt goes, I think that would be a nice upgrade (Since the Army and Air cadets use CF Dress shirts), I have no opinion on the badge changes since I haven't seen them. I think the upgrades would have looked nicer but if the survey says otherwise, so be it

    Personally I think a dress shirt and tie under the sea cadet tunic would have looked like garbage. Same with peak caps on cadets. I'm glad they didn't change it. The gun shirt, the white top, and the lanyard are all that remain of the old blues uniform, which IMO, never should have been changed. The cadet uniform I wore as a cadet was supposedly a cost-saving replacement for blues after the tri-service greens that had originally replaced blues were dropped.

    Personally, the only uniform change that I was happy with when I was a cadet was the new CF parade boots that replaced the old ones. Sure they were harder to shine initially, but talk about a big improvement in comfort.

    They have apparently discontinued the v-neck sweater that replaced the turtleneck sweater that was worn under the tunic during the winter; gun shirts now being the only option year-round. Qualification badges have been made smaller and now have the pips built-in to the badge. I've been told that it's all about cost cutting. I'm not sure how having to produce a different badge - for every qualification - for every level is cheaper than mass producing pip badges that need to continue being mass produced anyway. (for use with trade badges and as year pips)

    I don't know how accurate the information I have heard is, so perhaps there was some other motivation behind losing the sweater and changing the appearance of those badges, but either way, I wouldn't be surprised to see more cost-saving cut-backs to cadet uniforms and the cadet movement in the future. Compared to Canada's need for new fighter planes, new helicopters, and new fleet replenishment ships, (just to name some of the bigger ticket needs of the CF) I think Cadets Canada is low on the CF's priority list.
