i've been asked.." so are you guys basically like SCOUTS and GIRL GUIDES except know how to use guns? "

Trying not to hurt anybody in my vicinity, I politely replied, " no. no we're not."

yeah, this one kid asked me if I was a police officer once during tag day. I laughed and told him that he was cute. Later on, my PO told me that technically that could be considered harrassment but it's all good lol I haven't heard from his lawyer yet

Females don't HAVE to... it's just encouraged. Technically it's supposed to be "neatly groomed and not touching the collar", but the bun is strictly enforced upon most corps.

And females may fill out a request form to have 6 weeks for "restyling" where we do not have to show up with our hair done perfectly on parade nights, just neat. i.e. in a single braid down the back.

The bun being the usual way of achieving that standard for hair that, loose, goes past the collar - but it does allow almost several other hair styles.

The hard-core answer is to cut one's hair to, or close to, male standards.

As a note: if you, a female course cadet, choose to get your hair chopped off, you cannot be "charged with self-mutilation"/prevented from doing so/RTU'd/refused by the barber. Ditto, AFAIK, for cutting it yourself, or getting a barracks-mate to do it.

This came up at HMCS QUADRA two summers ago, regarding a female Gunner TG III.

It seems If your'e in a town with only one cadet element everyone thinks thats the only one. I commute to my squadron from a town with a sea cadet corps...I take part in remembrance day etc. one year I was approached by a kid at our schools remembrance day ceremony and he was like

" Are you some kind of special sea cadet?"

    haha ^^^ Chief Timmins....

Also, on the mar eng side of the planet, can you take the course after you've completed another trade's TG3 ? Because I'm thinking of finishing up Gunnery and then possibly doing MarEng. Everybody thinks I'm crazy, giving up a year of staff, but I think it could be fun.

    Any opinions?

I though you said cutting yourself

    Anyways, remember Brubaker... (who doesn't....sigh)
When we went on shore leave she wanted to get her hair cut very similarly to a male's. And the salon, seeing us in uniform, refused. The girl behind the counter said something along the lines of, " If you're gonna be in the reserves, you may as well have long, luscious hair. At least that's something to be proud of."

Brubaker and I gave her the biggest looks and walked away. I mean, first, we're not in reserves, but try explaining that to a person who does nothing but style hair. Second, we're in cadets... isn't that something to be proud of? and third... honestly, who cares how long our hair is. It's gotta be out of the way anyways.

Well...saw an episode of Swap TV on TVO (don't ask me why) where some kid from St. Lawrence got swapped with an art kid. The art kid thought that cadets was full of army people like Sarge from Red vs Blue.
