Interesting that the OJTs are still wearing RCN blue dungarees. When I went for two weekie in '77, I'm pretty sure they had shifted to CF green work dress and only course cadets were wearing dungarees.

Yes they are! They all used to have that orange stripe. There are other vessels there however.. maybe a YDT there somewhere?

Dayglow stripe, and since they just get painted over and over again, the orange is underneath still, all it takes is a nice jetty rub to show!

All I got to say is, I hope not. Although I would not be all that surprised. If you look at the pictures in the galley it looks like we eat off the same plates!!!!

but then again, some of the work dress parts may have been ripped or damaged, or even made as "souvenirs" for other cadets over the years, so you probably won't be wearing REALLY old parts for the work dress, but i wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

In the photos of cadets in square rig, is there any particular significance to the fact that most photos show a mixture of white and blue uniforms? Or is it simply a matter of availability?

That's mainly it. There were never enough white uniforms to go around so only special groups like the band or the ceremonial side party would be in them.

I beleive the orange coast guard stripe was put on because at the time the yags acted as a coast gaurd vessels. I may be wrong though. Wow seeing some of those pics is crazy I have coxn'ed some of those boats and sank one of them.

Yeah, Im almost positive the Orange Stripe is Coast Gaurd
If you look at pictures of Coast Gaurd Ships now, I think almost all of them have it
And Alot of older pictures have the Stripe aswell.

The current Canadian Coast Guard uses a red hull with a white stripe. The US CG uses a similar dayglo stripe on it's vessels and aircraft though. I doubt that the CF would use the same markings as the CCG, but I can imagine them using the dayglo stripe in a similar purpose to aid visibility or to identify for search and rescue. According to the dayglow site it's possible the paint glowed in the dark.

I think I remember reading something about HMCS QUADRA being responsible for a small SAR area in "good morning Quadra" but I can't remember.

Although these are all speculation, I'd imagine someone who was actually alive back then can shed some light on the matter.
