What can I do to be CadetWorld staff? I want to help!!
We are currently full up on all sorts of administrators, and other staff members. However, the biggest projects we have underway that need a lot of help and work, are those that are to be filling the Features and Fun section. Basically, I'm looking NOT for people who will say "I'm here, put me to work", but for folks capable of taking initiative and creating something worthwhile. Whether it's something amusing for the fun section, or a program for a great game, a chat program, or just some of your best lesson ideas and plans for teaching. If you can start putting something together without using the phrase "What do YOU want me to do?" - You're in. Draft up a couple of things and fire them off to the staff, and we'll go from there. Thank you for your interest, I hope you find these projects suitable enough to put some grand effort into. Remember, we tend to hire from within - Put forth the effort now, and when a staff position becomes available, you could be first on the list!

What is an Avatar, and how to I get one?
Avatars are the small pictures underneath your username on the lefthand side of posts. You may add an avatar by entering your user profile and chosing from one of the many available.

I have suggestions on how to improve Cadetworld, how do I pass them on?
The Help and Suggestion forum is a great place to discuss ideas and suggestions for improving CadetWorld. The staff are always excited to bring on new projects. Please also feel free to contact any of the Managers via PM to pass on a thought or suggestion

What is a signature, how do I add one?
After you have registered, you may set your signature. This is a piece of text that you would like to be inserted automatically at the end of all your posts. You can add a signature by entering your user profile and selecting the SIGNATURE option. If you are unsure how to format the signature with bold, colors, or other style aspects; Your signature editing box includes a 'UBB help' option. You can disable signatures on a per-post basis by un-ticking the 'Show Signature' checkbox when you compose your message. You may turn the signature on and off on posts you have already made by editing the post and altering the state of the 'Show Signature' option. Please reference the House Rules for signature guidelines..

The Avatar I want isn't on CadetWorld
The Staff are always interested in adding to our available avatars, if you have a request - please pass it on to the Design Manager.

I forgot my password, what do I do?
If you forget your password, you can click on the 'Forgotten Your Password' link on any page that requires you to fill in your password. This will bring up a page where you should enter your registered email address, and an email will be sent to that address instantly, with instructions for resetting your password.

What are the fancy bars under people's names?
The lines under people's names show how long they've been a member of CadetWorld. Look under FEATURES and "Status explained" for more details.

Does CadetWorld use cookies?
The use of cookies on this forum is optional, but may enhance your experience of the site. Cookies are used to enable functions such as showing whether or not a thread or forum you are viewing has new posts since your last visit, or to automatically log you back in when you return to the site after being away for a while. When you register, you will be given the option to 'Automatically login when you return to the site'. This will store your username and password in a cookie, stored on your computer. If you are using a shared computer, such as in a library, school or internet cafe, or if you have reason to not trust any other users that might use this computer, we do not recommend that you enable this. This forum also gives you the option to use a cookie to track your current session, ensuring that you remain logged-on while browsing the site. If you choose not to store this information in a cookie, the session data will be sent through each link you click. Choosing not to use a cookie may cause problems if your computer's connection to the Internet uses a proxy-server and you share links with other users behind the same proxy. If in doubt, we recommend that you select 'yes' to enable the cookie. After you have registered, you may alter your cookie options at any time by changing the settings on this page.

How do I clear my cookies?
Here are the instructions for Internet Explorer 5 on Windows: Close all Internet Explorer windows. Click the "Start" button. Move up to "Find" and click "Files or Folders" from the menu that appears. In the new window that appears, in the "containing text" field, type in the domain name of the forum without the "http://" or "www." part. For example, if the forums' address was "http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php", I would type in "vbulletin.com" (without the quotes) In the "look in" box, type in "C:\Windows\Cookies\" (without the quotes) and press "Find Now" After it has finished searching, highlight all files (click a file, then press CTRL+A) and delete them (press the "delete" key or SHIFT+DEL) Your cookies should now be removed. You may want to restart the computer and revisit the forums to be sure.

What are Smilies?
Smilies are small graphical icons which you can insert into your messages to convey an emotion or feeling, such as a joke or embarrassment. For example, if you entered a sarcastic comment, rather than type 'that was a joke', you could simply insert the 'wink' smilie. If you have used email or internet chat systems, you will probably be familiar with the concept of smilies already. Certain combinations of text characters are converted into smilies. For example,:) is converted into a smiling face. To understand smilie codes, tilt your head to the left and look at the text: you will see that :) represents two eyes and a smiling mouth. On occasions, you may want to prevent the text in your message being converted into smilies. You will see a checkbox which you can select when you make a new post, which will allow you to 'Disable Smilies'.

How do I post attachments?
Attachments can be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the forums should not be used as an extension of your hard drive! To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Browse] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive. Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this forum: gif jpg png txt zip bmp jpeg pdf php. After posting, the attachment will show up in the body of your message. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon .

Can I edit my own posts?
If you have registered, you will be able to edit and delete your posts. Note that the administrator can disable this ability as he desires. Your ability to edit your posts may also be time-limited, depending on how the administrator has set up the forum. To edit or delete your posts, click the button by the post you want to edit. If your post was the first in the thread, then deleting the post may result in the removal of the entire thread. After you have made your modifications, a note may appear, which notifies other users that you have edited your post. Administrators and moderators may also edit your messages but this note may not appear when they do so.

How do I get on as a moderator or staff member?
Moderators are appointed by the Managers to ensure a pleasant environment is maintained on CadetWorld. If and when a position becomes available, the staff will contact select users and offer positions as applicable.

Why do some of the words in my post appear as ***?
Certain words have been censored by the management. If your posts contain any censored words, they will be blanked-out like this: ****.

How do I add something to the features page?
If you have a project, article, picture, general point of use or amusement to offer, send your ideas to the staff and we will help you get started. Avoid contacting us and saying "I want to help.....give me something to do." CadetWorld is always looking for great additions to the pages, feel free to create something of your own making.

How can I get a custom avatar?
Custom Avatars are awarded for a number of different reasons by the staff. Weekly nominations are done in staff meetings, awards are given based on site contributions by positive posting, creating features, or generally being a solid, sound user.

Can I change my username?
Yes. Contact the Administration manager, who will reset your username. Please note that it is unwise to use a rank in your signature, as this requires frequent changes. Username changes are not encouraged by the management and will only be done on a case by case basis.
