  1. A Summer as a CSTC WO1

On July 7, 2011 I was promoted to WO1 of Greenwood CSTC. This was, to some people that had watched me go through the cadet program, a long time coming. To me, however, it was not at all what I expected. I spent the next 6 and a half weeks working with more people than I'd ever imagined. When people find out I did this for a summer their questions are usually:
"WOW! How hard was that?!" "How awesome was it?" "What cool things did you do?" "Was it weird being ...

  2. Varsity Basketball!

I have yet again made my high school's varsity basketball team! I'm in grade 11, and this is my third year on the team. This may not seem like something to be proud of, seeing as it's my third year being on the team, but here's the thing - I'm 4'11''. I had a tryout last Wednesday, on my parade night, so I came to cadets in civilian attire. I had notified my F/Sgt and the WO's, who all know I've played basketball for years, but not my officers. Some of them gave me really odd looks, when I told ...

  3. Ottawa - Day 1

On May 13th I left with my high school band at 7am to go to Ottawa for three days. The plan was to spend about 15 hours on the bus, stopping where we needed to and be in Ottawa by around 11. Around 8pm, we were informed that our travel place that put our itinerary together didn't include stopping times in our travel time. It would be a few extra hours before we got to the college we were staying at. Finally at 1am (2am our time) we arrived at the college. 19 hour bus ride. Even though we were only ...

  4. Huge Squadron

So, this year has been off to an amazing start ! We have tons of new recruits and our numbers just keep growing. Except... we have a lot of cadets. Yesterday on parade, as we were reporting our flights, a friend of mine counted 124 cadets on parade. Wow. We are currently the largest squadron in NS. My flight had 31 cadets in it last night, and 10 of those weren't on my list.
Well I suppose a huge squadron can have it's assets!

  5. My cadet career

When I was in grade 7, I decided I needed a change. I was a girl guide for years, and decided I wanted to stop and do something else. My mother and Aunt had heard about this program called "cadets". Since we live near CFB Greenwood, I'd seen them in parades and such as a kid, always thinking it wasn't for me. My aunt and mother convinced me and my cousin (who is the same age as me, to the date actually) to join this program. They told me it was free, so if by the end of my first year ...
