It sickens me to think that there are people in this country who could do such a disgusting act! I hope the VC gets back to the right people.

that VC belongs either a) in a muesum or b) in the keeping of the family. i just wonder if the auction house would have sold it if someone hadn't found it.

Auction houses are in the business of making money. Those with good reputations will check out an item of this sort beforehand. There is a HUGE market for Canadian Militaria. Check EBay....People will pay a great deal of money for the 1945 EGO Victory Medal. More with the overseas clasp.
A few years back a bidder purchased Billy Bishop's Medals and donated them to a museum. So all hope isn't lost.

It should be illegal to sell a VC.

I understand that there wouldn't have been cameras, and sophiticated alarms like there are today when it was stolen... but did this museum not have any kind of way to secure these things, like behind glass? This kind of thing wouldn't have been an interactive touch-and-feel kinda of display... it smells like an inside job to me.

Obviously it didn't carry the kind of weight to the person who stole it as it does to the people who know what it truly means. After all, it is only a medal; the meaning behind it is what's important.

That is disgusting.
War medals are very hard to come by. Trust me...I've been looking for my grandfather's medals for a long time. (I can't remember which one exactly it was, but I believe it was the Canadian version of the Victoria Cross)
As long as it has been recovered...thats the important part.

The Victoria Cross is Canadian. Even in the world wars it was for the commonwealth countries, mainly Canada and Britain.

Maybe he means the Canadian version (If im not mistaken, the words "For Valour" are writtin in Latin. EDIT: I think it's "PRO VALORE")

Well, although this topic has been dead for a few days, I thought Id get my say in.
Being a Canadian, I take great pride in what our military is and has been capable of doing. More than that I take pride in our country as a whole. This medal symbolizes the brave acts of a Canadian, and a member of the British Commonwealth, it should be treasured with great pride and respect in a museum, or in the posession of the soldier's family. However, there are those whom have balls which size continues to amaze me. The fact that someone would steal the highest decoration any Canadian can recieve does astonish me. But the fact that the police had the foward thinking to dig up this case astonishes me even more. it would have been very easy to skip over this like a morning donut on their day off. I think they should be congratulated for this.

You are correct Ward, I forgot to add that in, however, a VC is a VC. There isn't a different name for the Victoria Cross.
