Do any other universities have this?

During my frosh week, each residence takes their group of frosh and subjects them to a series of fun/not fun activities to help team build them and make them a part of the house. Each frosh gets a house Tshirt that they have to wear for the duration of frosh week and are told they'll be punished if they wash it. One night they take us on a big walk around the town where we see various parts of campus and initiators squirt us with water guns and yell slogans at us. The next morning at 7, there is morning PT at the football field where everyone is mostly hung over from the optional houseparty the night before and has to log roll, somersault and jumping jack around for an hour or so. That night is the final gross initiation where the frosh are dunked in various foodstuffs to prove that they are "man enough" to be a part of the residence.

I've talked about this before with a few of my friends from different universities, and none of them have something like this at their universities. I think that's kinda sad. I do see the bad points of it (obviously) as people could feel unwelcome and degraded. However, I wouldn't have met people if I wasn't forced to get out and roll around in the dirt with them. Also, that is an experience I'll never forget. I can reminice with people from my residence, no matter what year they're in, about the crazy stuff that they made us do. :)

So, what do you people think?

Absolutely not, I think it's terrible. And believe me, I met PLENTY of people in residence without having to roll around in the dirt with them.

We 'have' to wear out house shirt during frosh week, but for the most part, you're as involved/not involved as you want to be.

In my house, we only had 30 frosh, so we all got to know eachother fairly quckly, and by the end of frosh wweek, hardly any of us showed up to the activities. Some of the larger residences had 90% attendance.

Every house as a "Hell Night", but it changes house to house. My house was $15, and unlimited 'juice'. Another house had them all go out into the middle of the woods, and roll around in hamburger meat and such.

In terms of initiation? An optional "ice cream social", and an optional "pancake breakfast".

I think it would have been cool having to go through such college hardships.

I dont remember what happened during Frosh during the day..I was usually still asleep until the night came around.

I found that if you were very social at night, going to bars and chilling at parties, you met way more fun and cool people to hang around with rather than going to whatever was planned during the day. However, I dont think UofT had anything like what was planned at other universities in terms of 'initiation'.
:D

If I were told to roll around in anything, I'd probably **** myself laughing.

It was great fun. :D As a matter of fact, I've never had so much fun doing burpees or sliding down a mat of "questionable food slop" and having eggs cracked on my head. There weren't any people too emotionally scarred by it. After all, if you didn't want to do PT at 7 AM, then you didn't have to ... but most people did.

I still run into people that were in my frosh group ... then again, it is a small univeristy. I run into a lot of people that I've seen before.

I dunno, our frosh week was pretty much just insane activities.... It was a lot of fun, but the most taxing thing which the whole group was subject to was the 6:00am Round-Ups... Aside from that, there were slightly humiliating or disgusting things we had to do for different events - but usually only one frosh from each group was forced to do them. I had to go "bobbing for dog biscuits" in a kiddie pool full of spaghetti, a friend of mine had to eat an entire block of spam, putting a condom on a cucumber with your mouth, two-person pudding eating contest, you know, all sorts of fun things. Plus I was forced to go for a fully clothed swim in the canal, that sucked... Eeeeewww canal! ;)

6:00am Round-Ups...

lol, they tried that. I remember them coming around, banging on the doors. One of the frosh finally opens up his door and is like, "SHUT THE **** UP" and slammed his doors.....safe to say, we all got up at our leisure (around 10-ish)

Awww, that's no fun! You're supposed to go along with all the stupid stuff!! That's what makes frosh week memorable! ;)
