Anyone else already feeling the "oh my gosh the term is almost over and I'm way behind on my projects" thing yet? I know I sure am. Stupid Lit paper. Any suggestions on how I could write an entire paper on imagery in The Great Gatsby? I loved the imagery in it but can't figure out how to work it into a paper.

And any suggestions on writing a codetta and retransition for the exposition in a sonata form? Damn... unless Brandy Lee or Lt Chan wander by.... bah. Can't remember how long they are and what they're composed of.

Ah well.. anyone else having any term-end butterflies?

Well, reading it all, not just the back cover, would be a great place to start.

Urgh, and here I am having wasted my reading break; alas, oh well, I think I can bull**** through most of my essays with just he bare minimum of reading and random quotations from my sources:P

Just watch the great gatsby movie. That way, you can actually SEE the imagery, lol. That's what I did in High School...

You said it Tristan. I almost bombed 3 of my 6 midterms, and with this whole military thing taken off full speed, I'm finding that it's impossible to keep up with everything.

I hope I get into the engineering discipline that I want though. Damn!

When I read it in High School, I used "Coles Notes" talks about imagery tonnes, and things I'd have never picked up on. Never read the book, but scored one of the top marks in the class on the test  lol

But year, I'm there. Bombed my Bio Midterm....I wanted to cry during it. Chem Midterm later this week, but it should be alright. Politics Project, Religion Essay (almost done!), and 2 more English Essays to write.

You'll want to end your exposition with a closing theme (aka codetta). It's basically just a little tag at the end. It just serves to tie your themes together and get you ready for the development. (You'll do a retransition after your development to prepare for the recap.) Your closing should be in the same key as the second theme. It may be of a different character, very motivic or rhythmic.

Other than that ... listen to some sonatas and see if you can pick out their closing themes to get ideas.

I had to read that last year for my second english course. For the essays I pretty much just regurgitated everything that was said in class but in an organized manner and managed to pass it. I tried reading the book but fell asleep every time I tried.

In regards to gatsby

"Hi there, I'm Jay Gatsby"

that is all

I'm sure one could fill several pages just talking about "the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleberg (sp?)." That provoked some pretty strong imagery for me. You could also talk about Gatsby's parties, where everyone was drinking bootlegged rum and dancing the Charleston, and things like that. It's been 3 years since I've read the book, so I'm sure you'll have no trouble at all. :)

If you run into trouble, see what you can dig up at classicnote.com. That website helped me pass English 101. :D

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions, guys... it will certainly help me a lot. Specifically BL for the sonata help... just hit a writer's block and I haven't even finished the exposition yet  (I've only done theme 1, bridge, and theme 2) and Insane Power Pilot for the suggestion on the eyes... it is certianly a big part of the story. My biggest concern is a centralized main idea, or thesis if you will, to write about. What can I say about the imagery? That's where I'm stuck.

And Ed.. bah to you.. I read the book in one night. Loved it.

I'm gonna look on the Academic Search Elite for some good articles relating to The Great Gatsyby...

*sigh* First year's almost over... When are the rest of you actually finished the year, and what are you doing for the summer? I'm done on April 27th, and I'm hoping beyond hope to get some form of staff job for the summer. ;)

My last exam on the 21st but then I have a field school the week after exams so I officially finish my term on the 29th.
I'm still hoping for a job this summer too, very anxious!

I finish this semester in Mid April. Then it's right on to semester 3 for me! No slowing down yet until June!

Harshness!! I was thinking on taking an early summer semester course or two, but they weren't offering anything I needed... :(
