No, but it is the first year that they have this new selection policy with the number one candidtae from each Sqn. It's a lot more complicated than you would think.

Maybe I forgot to add that :D I'm calm... just really getting impatient...you get told oh you'll find out this date...the date comes and nope... wait and wait...but then again I should know that it's never true!
They should just stop giving fictional dates lol! And then it would be a surprise when you find out!
No, but it is the first year that they have this new selection policy with the number one candidtae from each Sqn. It's a lot more complicated than you would think.
But then that does not make sense..... because not everyone applies for the same things? Example, if I apply for Band, and my WO applies for Rifle Coach, and he's #1, he'll get his rifle coach and I won't get band...It would make sense if we all applied for the same position, but it's like competing for completely different things???
runnerchica
29th April 2004, 16:56
Yeah I was kind of wondering the same thing. Noone in my sqn applied for the same staff position but by this system only the first would get it? Am I correct in thinking this? What happens if there are many qualified cadets in a sqn or corps? How will this system work?
I'm getting majorly impatient with waiting! I'm not a patient person so this sucks! :( I hope I hope I hope I got staff and even if I didn't.. I want to find out soon! :)

Yeah, go Em! I know what you mean. I don't think it would've been half as bad if they didn't keep giving us dates.
I was first told I'd find out about staff at the beginning of April. So yeah, you can see why I am getting impatient. What if I don't get staff? I've already missed out on a lot of jobs that I could've had. The Signal Hill Tattoo was my plan B but they already had interviews for that. Blah.
So now I won't find out until next week. AFTER the annual. I really hope my officers don't keep it from us longer then they have to. I guess I'll hold out until Wednesday. Le sigh.

Yippee...that's for sea I imagine!
But can anyone explain that new rule about the #1 cadet getting picked first?
The way it works is that the Corps/Sqn COs were supposed to rank all SC applicant from their units. The number 1 applicant is guaranteed a job. However, having said that, that person will only be placed in a job for which he/she meets the prerequisites. If the number one raked applicant has applied for a job that he/she does NOT meet the prerequisites, they will be placed in another job. For example, if someone applies for Flight Staff and does not meet the prerequisites, they may end up on Duty Staff or somewhere else that they do qualify for.
All number one applicants from all units will be placed in a job first (one for which they meet the prerequisites). After all "number 1s" are placed in a job, the rest of the Region's applicants are ranked and placed into jobs as before. This means that you may still have more than one successful applicant for SC jobs from one particular unit.
Does that clear things up?

I think that whole picking "#1" isn't right.
I mean im ranked #2 cause my cox'n automatically gets #1. But that doesn't mean he can do a better job than me. its just that he joined a year earlier and thats it! And what if he doesn't even go to staff because of Reg force orders?

Yeah I know what ya mean Dominique, example, if one corps only has one applicant, and he's not really good but since he's the only one, he's ranked #1, and then another corps is in a situation that the highest rank is #1, and their #2 is waaayy better than the other corps' craappy #1.... the one that deserves it more gets the shaft.....
But then I guess it's the same for when corps get allotted a certain number of places...
Edit: I'm not in that position, thank god, but i'm just wondering how that's all going to work fair for everyone!
gunzgirl85

I think they should base it purely on the matrix, and then if it comes down to it, try to make sure most corps have at least one on staff.

hhahahha... I love that comment..
just because you have 7 billion national courses, which would give you a great amount of points, DOES not make you a good staff cadet..
For example, I worked with a cadet who shall remain nameless.. 3 national courses under their belt. This person was by far one of the worst cadets I have ever seen, however, by the matrix, would've been highly touted.
Ideally, the best possible way to select staff cadets would be to do a selection process similiar to the air cadet natinoal selection. (In my opinion anyways) This would give you the best overall idea as to how a person can handle staff. I'm sure there are people who only ever did ILC and IC, and would be 10 times better than a "qualified" person..

I have a question. This is my first year applying for staff, but I also applied for a specialty just in case I didn't get a staff position. Since we found out about camp first instead of "staff", I was accepted for Marine Engineering. Now, I was wondering, if it's still possible to get a staff position? (only 3 cadets including myself had applied)

Are you a DPO?
Woohoo! Finally found out tonight - Here I go for another year at Cloud Lake (G'wood Survival Staff)!! :D :D At least this time I'll be better prepared for inservice :) I wonder how early we'll have to be there though, 'cuz last year I had to leave on the 24th, but this year I'll be in the dentist's chair on the 24th getting my wisdom teeth out :( Oh well, we shall see..
And for any G'wood bandies out there, Ker and Vink will be back! ;)

Yeah, I got staff at Acadia, Bush Staff...I haven't been there in 3 years, cause of some rather *clears throat* unfortunate incidents. But I'm going back this year! GOD HOW I MISSED THAT PLACE! I love Acadia...and since I haven't been there since i finished course in 2001, I look forward to making some new friends! :D

Haha..You're Hotel Staff. That's cool. (As in, it sounds like you work at a Hotel. Man, I need sleep.) Maybe with Super Duper Matt on Charlie Coy we'll get the Fleece ONCE. (I was rather surprised when E and H got it last year..Woah..E and H..That makes EH. That's totally Canadian. Sweet!)
Did I mention I need sleep?
Sleep. Now.
And of course H got fleece, but we were surprised too haha. With super duper Sgt Peach on Hotel staff (weird, it does look like I work in a hotel) then we'll get it once more

Haha it may be nothing like a hotel, but compaired to the complexs and crappy bathrooms and laundry rooms with only 3 washers (only 2 of which work) on the other companies, I think H coy is the Argonaut equviliant =P

Heheh true, since we have the new facilities, now all there's left to fix is the barracks and the band shack. Did we ever scrub those floors with CLR and stuff, but so old that it never looked clean!
Oh by the way! There's going to be 3 tenor instructors this summer :D

Anyone know what goes on at the inservice or whatever for RGS(a)? I want to prepare because I'm going after the Warrent's position.

You know it! ;) Though that's still conditional on whether or not I get into RMC. :)

Either way, I'm sure I'll be in a world of hurt... My sisters had a horrible time when they had their wisdom teeth out :(
