During the summer what are you gonna miss about not being at rez?
I gonna miss
- the fridge being 10 feet from my room
- having the freedom to do what i want when i want
- being able to return to rez at any hour of the night
- partying
- the people here
- the window on which I Leaf'd up for the playoffs
- etc.
Ya know, going home for summer from rez, is like the end of camp

Rez? That's so first year.
It's all about having your place, shared with as few as 0 and as many as 6 housemates, in the Student Ghetto of Queen's University.
WAY better than res.

id just like to say that i thoroughly enjoyed living in rez for the past two years..and its only because..my rez is owned by the city and not by the collge, we have no floor advisors, no set-rules, no one watching us over our shoulder...we are completely free...its a student village...just like queens has its ghetto..so does Fleming..and man is it ghetto lol....but two yrs is way too much time there(i only lived there cuz it was 3 min from the campus lol) so i finally got off my arse and went in on house :D

The freedom in res? Aside from the above mentioned (student ghettos, etc) res is the least freeing thing ever. It's like summer camp, only with sex and alcohol. There's still people telling you when to do what, half the time you don't even cook for yourself.
That being said, I am going back for residence year #3 next year (even if it is "so first year"...whatever). I've had a great time my past 2 years living in res...even though I don't really mix well with the residence crowd. Both years I found a large group of people more like myself (I'm not a big fan of dance clubs and socials...I more prefer pubs or shows at an old punkrock bar or a coffeehouse or a trip to th art gallery).
But anyways, res is great, even if 90% of the people there act like they're in highschool. Plus I can sleep in late all the time :p
I'm mostly going to miss my friends.

meh I cooked for myself a lot... considering my suite had its own kitchen... that is if heating up food is considered cooking
I miss the midnight barbecuing

Ed, it sounds like you had an apartment. If so, that doesn't count as rez. ;)
I agree, rez is "so first-year" especially the place where I was living. But to be fair, I will compile a list of everything I won't miss and will miss:
I won't miss:
-Being kicked off the TV when the Oilers are playing because a group of girls want to watch the new episode of Trading Spaces
-Self-centered people who only care about their grades and nobody else
-The rules!! So many rules!
-My roommate coming in at 2 AM and turning on the lights in the room and waking me up and such when I have morning classes.
I will miss:
-Not having to cook for myself and going down to eat dinner whenever I felt like it, no matter the time of day. :(
-Playing hockey in the lounge, even though it was against "the rules." I really ought to get a place with a large undevolped basement just for this very purpose. :)
-Despite the fact that I hated 90% of the people on my floor, I really liked the other 10%, and I think it was worth it.
Well, I will add more if I think of some. I am moving into a newly-built 6 bedroom house with my friends next week and I can't wait!! :D

no no...
it was a residence...
our residence at Seneca had about 250 rooms with 2 people in each... in each room was a kitchen, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms.
this is what it looked like:

For me, I found living in res so convenient! I mean, when you have a break between classes or something, you can just go back to your room! And if it's gross outside.. just take the tunnels! You don't even have to go outside! :D
I can't wait to go back to res next year (for us it's not "so first year").. most of my friends are coming back and what not.. plus I'm moving over to the "apartment style" res.. (two separate rooms.. big ones.. and they share a kitchen and bathroom). I can't wait. No more caf food! Although I must say, just strolling to the caf and ordering what you want (to an extent of course) is so nice.. not having to make it yourself.
Ahh I love res! :) Good times..

MY GOD!!! YOU HAD TUNNELS!!!
I'd give anything if we had a tunnel, or a canopy or car pool system from the res to the school!!!

Hahah yes yes we did. We have a fairly small campus, and only two residences. Although the "new res" (the apartment style one), isn't hooked up to the tunnels yet.. apparently over the summer they are going to build an overpass walkway type of dealy that hooks it up to the old res so we'll have access to the tunnels. :) The tunnels are so great when you look outside and there's like a blizzard going on.. and yet you still have classes.. I loved it :D

Those guys are so great at UofM. Leave it up to them to hire the most out of shape campus security ever. I have so many stories that I wouldn't be allowed to share here...heh.
And it's possible hartley. Although, it's also quite possible that I'm stalking you, studying you, and then typing this to intrigue you...

that sounds like a pshyc major to me, not a cultural geographer (unless that is your trying to put my thinking into a spatial perspective)
I will miss:
- the crew that watched CSI and Without a Trace every Thursday
- the convenience of the dining hall
- the tunnels
- the freedom to go wherever, whenever you want
I won't miss:
- everyone getting ready to go downtown every Fri or Sat
- all the ditzy girls that lived around me (in an all girl house there weren't as many as I thought there would be!)

ah...being away from the screaming drunk girls is great. I never understood why some girls scream randomly after 2 coolers
thankfully most of the girls on my floor weren't 19 yet and couldn't go downtown or to the Breezway often

I'm getting my own apartment next year. I'm going to miss:
- drunk guys stumbling in at 3 am and writing random messages on my whiteboard
- houseparties and the sticky floors and general leftover randomness afterwards
- having the house smell like leftover old beer 3 days out of 7
- people nextdoor making babies until all hours
- the people upstairs dropping random things on the floor
- BAD cafeteria food
And that was the best part.
