Well i was actually about to post in the other thread and Bub shut it down, so it was like all gone.. opps..

Anyway, I was watching on sunday night, and i went on the Idol site to find out a little bit more about each contestant, and although the quality and the spectrum is much larger this year, there are still a few which you think hmm.... how'd he get through, when i do remember hearing some amazing voice a little earlier...

This year's contestants seem to be a lot older, only 2 are 16 and most (not just the top 12) but most being music teachers of some sort... and like proffesional performers, like regurlar gigs, and the sort, not just in their room, or in voice lessons...

I really dont understand why Angie was evicited in the first show, maybe the public didn't like Angie's size but her voice was phenomenal.... she brought tears to my eyes and a chill down my spine.. i would have loved to have seen her give Guy a definite run for his money last year! Cos i honestly believe she would have come out on top!

As for this years, Anthony had definite pop material, and i can see an already perfectly molded pop artist within him, although i really enjoy listening to Ricki-Lee and Amali... pure young talent.....

oh of course it is Kass, but i'm a singer myself, and i have even considered trying out for Australian Idol, but Anthony (in my belief) looks kind of plastic on TV... do the ublic really relate to him? or do the teenagers think he's hot and vote for him..

See im so glad that last year wasn't a beauty contest... remember in the final 12 only the public decides, and the judges are only their to critisize or applaud their performances...

But thankfully the public chose guy, although i doubt the majority of the public related to him, because remember he was a church singer... if it was based on looks... i would hate to have to hear see smell anything to do with Milsy...

Cosima and Paulini were amazing, Cosima came such a long way from who she first was, and how will the public ever know whether Ang could have slimmed down a little (now i'm not holding her weight against her or ANYTHING discriminatory like that, becuase i'd still vote 100% for her) but if cosima hadn't pulled out at the last minute.. who do think would have come first?

hmm.. i'll come back to this years later.. but now i have to go to work...

I still think Guy would have won. What I meant was, not so much, relate as in someone you could talk to?? but someone likeable and someone the public likes and who has the ability to get a huge fan base, aww I dunno how to express it.

I loved Paulini, but I was a never a big fan of Cosima because we just seemed to me to be whoever the judges/stylists wanted her to be, not herself.

I think Cosima could have been big on the music scene if she hadn't pulled out.

Guy isn't bad, but I just can't stand that modern rendition of "wonderful world". My mum played it over and over and over again. Then Kim played it over and over and over again, then I went shopping and the shops played it... ARGH! I still like the original much better.

I'm still waiting for a singer who has a fresh and unique style. It just sounds all the same to me. Good music lasts heaps long.

interesting enought, i actually ran into Cosmia (and i think her mother?) a few weeks ago while i was in town on my lunch break. I was in the shops getting some clothes and turned and just plain bump into her! I couldnt work out where i seen her face until later on when i got into work.

Darn! she is not a bad looking gal to i might add!

You guys all know how revolting i thought the first series of Australian Idol was right?

Well if you werent lucky enough to read last years thread about Aussy Idol, i thought it was pathetic and a waste of perfectly good air time lol.

Ive just watched the current series.......and I have to say that Anthony has one of the most naturally Brilliant voices I have EVER heard!!
When it comes to singers I am soooo picky and pedantic.....being a trained vocalist myself, I find it INCREADIBLY difficult to sit and watch bad singers (like everyone in Series One), but honestly I was blown away by anthony's voice! Its not that dissimilar to a great music theatre voice. Its very versitile and can easily sing pop, classical and theatre (a very rare find these days). For example myself, I can only sing theatre/classical. Give me a pop song and I choke. So yeah, if anthony isnt in at least the final 3 with a voice like that, then there is something seriously wrong with the competition!!

Um, I don't watch Australian Idol 2. :o I watched it last year, and enjoyed it, but I can't seem to get into it properly this year.

I'm going to agree with Sean here about the package deal thing. I think the voice is the most important part of the package, I remember with Idol last year most people I spoke to judged the contestants on their voice first, personality, appearance, etc after.

Yeah, I wasnt a fan of Anthony, but after last night preformance i was knocked down. Seriously when i saw he come onto the stage, i went back to reading my book, but a couple second later I was stuck watching the whole thing. he took a difficult song and just ace'd it! I dont see any thing wrong with the preformance, sure he could dance and do all that kind of stuff but I think what he did last night, is what i am looking for in a Idol! Anthony gone a long way from Plastic to now!

Ricki-Lee, she did well last night but it wasnt the best i have to admit, same applies with Courtney. But Casey, she scored another touchdown!

I saw the cuts in the ad break after the late news or something last night, and I wasn't impressed with any of them really. Thought they were all pretty shocking considering they chose their own songs.

But Casey, she scored another touchdown! Its cool that she has support from some people bu i can honestly not find anything good about that girl.
She has an incredibly plain and uncontrolled voice, and she is an awful performer, she just stands there and belts out songs.......Not to mention the clothes!!! If it were on the 'whole package' she would have NO chance. The only reason she may do well is she appeals to people who like to be...."different" lol. The songs she chooses aren't all that great for her voice either. Like Im a big fan of George, and she murdered their song last night!

I dont think anyone can match a good artist voice, because for every singer out there, they have their own voice, their own style. and that what make them special.

Anthony was a classic example.

Casey did well considering. I dont consider anyone by what they dress (well we all do,) but for Australian Idol, to me its their voice and how they preformance. Not how they dress.

Theres this guy at school called Michael Everington, and he has a band called Foxglove who do covers of The Vines, Radiohead etc. I've always thought they were awesome coz thought they are doing covers, they always sound different. :o

Lette, he does have a point though, and considering some of the flamings that were given in response to a few names that were thrwon about in regards to last series winner, Deans comments are very fair!

As for Ricki-Lee being gone!!! So So wrong! She is one of possibly four that have the package to make a high profile career, and she didnt do too badly!

Without a doubt Casey should have gone. Her performance was a........it was just horrible, there is no way she should still be in the comp. She could only be there due to votes out of sympathy or a fan base....no one could have voted for her performance. It was that bad :(

we like most of the contestants in idol.. Nathan and I love idol.. so its all in good fun... its just easier than remembering there names..

I love idol... its just a fun way of looking at it all, and being able to remember who you are talking about when you arent all that great with names..

As i said, im not paying them out.. i love idol..

they had so little time to practice.. me and nath are shocked that Ricki got voted off, and dicko wasnt a happy boi either, as much as i didnt want it to happen.. I would have prefered to see casey go.. cause of her song, she was over powered by the arrangement, and then forgot her words, she started out so strong, I didnt even notice that ricki forgot her words, she covered it up so well..

The gold coast is happy now, cause rikki lee is a performer already before idol, she will possibly be lined up to perform at Indy. So that would be so awsome.. I was talking to rikki's next door neighbour.. they have had fires up near their house, so rikki would have also been worried about her house, and her family... we have had many bush fires on the Gold Coast lately..

I didnt find the show as entertaining as it usually is the other night, which just goes to show that the producers of the show need to give the performers the time to practice, instead of lining up there schedual so much.. but i guess too that they have to learn about all the pressures they will face if they become the Australian Idol. So sad.. but.. unfortunately.. someone has to go.. shame that it was rikki, i thought she was gonna be there til the end..

People of the gold coast are considering Boycotting Idol cause rikki has gone, not that this will do anything to get rikki back though.. Its been amazing though, the local radio station Sea FM (90.9) have been supporting rikki lee heaps, u could sms rikki's name to the number from the Sea FM Sea cruiser....

I too missed the show, I was away down in Kalamunda teaching on a course and didnt get back til late that night, and then last night i was at a local Emergency Management Committee Meeting (they sure go on and on) so I had no idea what happen and why.

Ricki Lee gone? In a way I am glad she has, she doesnt seem to have anything that put her aside from any of the other players.

I noticed Ricki Lee put on a bit of weight since she auditioned, but she was a good singer nevertheless. I'm not the biggest fan of Australian Idol, but it does mildly interest me. I prefer the OC and Queer Eye :D

Just a thought, Where have any of the "idols" had international success?

And is this success related to the quality of their music or to the fact that they are TV stars?

I say this because Guy has won a few ARIA's now and sold a bucket load of records...are any of his ARIA's not related to his selling a bucketload of records, and his selling a bucketload of records related to his talent or too the success of the marketting machine that is Idol? I would say that its about 5% him 95% Idol!

Whilst I enjoy watching the show, the end result that it produces is laughable. Guy is one of the top selling artists in Australia now but is still doing Shopping Centre appearances. Even funnier is that Guy just released a Biography.....how long and interesting can it be? He is 23 and had released one record at the time of writing....How much more money are they going to try squeeze out of the product that is Guy! ;)

A metro isn't just someone who likes to dress well.....they are people who dont care about societies stereo-type of what a "male" should be. This person wouldn't be a "metrosexual". This person would be someone who is comfortable, fashionable, smells and feels good, can communicate and not have one particular focus. If such a thing was to exist, this is pretty general. I know plenty of gay and straight guys who love and play rugby but also have girlfriends/boyfriends and communicate with anyone well.

Having said that

I personally 100% agree with what Sean's saying. She may be an 'idol' and I use that term very loosely. But there's no way in hell she's a role model. A Roll Model maybe, or even a Mole Roddle, but definetly not a Role Model. And that's simply due to the facts that Sean already set out above, for saomeone to be a role model they need to be a positive influence through positive means, she's simply an over weight highschool droppout who struck gold........which may happen to 0.000000001% of people. If anything people should avoid ending up in her situation.
