Well I was debating weather to put this thread in the CW Legion forum or here, but I decided here since it can apply to everyone.....

I got this email recently about the good old days of when waking up early saturday morning was a must to watch the cartoons, when the worst thing you could get from girls were cooties, when the best way to test how brave you were was through the dreaded "double-dog-dare", and when you were afraid of your parents and grandparents more than your principal, or maybe even the cops!!!.....

so that got me thinking, what do you miss from those days? do you think us growing up "back then" had some kind of advantage (think outside of technology and what makes growing up so funback then) over the kids of today?

Just wondering your thoughts.......personally, I miss those days :)
"Red rover, red rover, we call ______ over" :D

The only thing I really miss is watching cartoons without people thinking I'm weird (I still love my cartoons lol). The rest of my childhood is just blah. In the past where it'll always be. But cartoons rock! lol ;)

Playing cowboys and Indians in the woods trying to avoid the wrath of the gamekeeper! All with makeshift bows and arrows or when we were feeling rich proper cap guns!

On a somewhat similar topic, I was looking after a couple of my cousins(grade 3 and grade 5 or 6). The older one(female) was talking about how popular a girl in the younger one's(male) class will be next year in grade four... since she's already wearing hoop earings.
Now, I don't think I ever thought like that, but then again I was one of those quiet kids. How about you? Was coolness based on what type of earings? :)

I don't remember thinking like that either. I do however remember how people were cool if they were the ones who dared make fun on the un-cool ones.

That is depressing that kids have to be cool based on fashion accessories.
Thinking back as well as playing around in the woods, most of the rest of my time was spent with my pony!

In the winter: sliding down the hill in a rat race down the hill on GT snow racers and then crashing into each other, and fliping out

In the summer, riding our bikes down the same hills skipping off rocks, then crashing into each other, and flipping out

In the winter, skiing across the hills, catching a root, or rock, then my skis would cross i'd crash and flip into a rosebush

In the summer, kayaking along the hills, in the lake getting hit by a passing moter boat wave, crashing though them, stabilizing then flipping

.....wait i'm noticeing a reoccuring theme here

It all started falling apart when they invented tamagotchi's....highly overrated...slinkies, yoyos, marbles and trading cards were so much cooler....and so much more social!

And when I was in year 4 the boys had a "boys secret hideout" which was the big tree at the bottom of the playground....and everyone knew where it was....and I was the only girl allowed in there because I played handball with them and didn't like Barbie...lol

My best friend Amanda and I were talking abouthis on our bush weekend this past weekend. We both totally agreed that those shoes with the lights on the heels should make a come back... in larger sizes, so we could see where we're going at night.

Then, there's also "House"... where in the winter, you and your friends make a house of snow by making little walls up the side and decorating your "room" and you and your friends were all family... it was great.

Man... growing up sucks. lol!

Oh, come on! When we were young... it didn't matter if it was from Zellers... they were cool anyway! Now though... you look at kids, and they talk about things like how some chicky is going to be popular in the fourth grade because she's already wearing hoop earrings. I'm sorry, but now adays... it's name brand or nothing. Thank you Media influence... I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Bert and Ernie sporting Adidas or Fubu in the new few years.

I can't believe you all didn't mention STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!! I still have the doll at home where you squeeze her stomach and air comes out of her mouth and it smells like strawberries.. :D

I remember not even being allowed to say "shut up" until I was like 13, and even then when I did say it (to my sister).. my parents almost stopped right there in their tracks.

How about the Polk-a-dot Door? And Mr Roger's Neighbourhood?

CARE BEARS COUNT DOWN..
I mean really.. when you look at cartoons and kid's shows today, they just aren't the same.

I also think kids today at growing up at a disadvantage compared to "the good old days" because they have to deal with a lot more (did you ever hear of kids bringing KNIVES to school when you were in middle school??) and the media has definately influence them.. I never cared about brand name when I was in grade 5.. and I still don't.

My 11 year old nephew SWEARS.. and it wouldn't surprise me if my 4 year old nephew starts soon too. I was too afraid to even say "cr@p" around my parents until I was like 16/17.. afraid of what I don't know.. LOL.. it was like an unspoken thing.

I still haven't really grown up... One of my friends from camp was feeling depressed today, and I gave him the following advice:

1) Pop your collar.
2) Get some dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, and stage their deaths in a dish of ketchup. The more sound effects, the better.
3) Watch Finding Nemo until you catch yourself smiling.

Yeah, that's my way of life. I know all the words to Hakuna Matata, I still live on the Family Channel, and once in a while, I'll see what Sugar and Carlos are up to.

It's so much easier to just live life like nothing matters, and just have fun doing it. I stopped by a Beanie Baby stand today, and actually said "What? When did this one come out...?". I haven't bought a Beanie or looked at a Beanie catologue for years!

I just wish I could turn back time (yeah, I'm singing that song in my head now) and do my childhood over again, with the attitude I have now. I wouldn't care if Jesse Morgan (the popular girl!) liked me or not. I wouldn't feel pressured to graffiti the school bathrooms because it was 'cool'. I would probably still be best friends with Tara... *sigh*

All this talk about the past is depressing me. I'm gonna go hook up Finding Nemo.

wow...Reading this I totally remember pretty much everything I haven't thought about in years...like...Attempting to build an entire fort out of leaves but having duties yell at us for some reason ( I can't actually remember why) and attempting to *smuggle* rope into school to tie to the bar above the slide so that we could actually run and get all the way up it (this was when slides were still really big and made of metal...) and aaaaall the other stuff you guys have been wrighting about...

But would I redo my childhood? Nah, that's why I love being around kids...I can get away with building a giant fort out of my living room, I can...build some random thing (boat, car etc) out of anything that can be found etc etc and no-one gives it a second thought :P
