Has anyone else heard the song "American Idiot" by Green Day? I won't say I'm pro-American, but that song is just a little too blunt for me, good tune thought! What are your opinions on it?

Here are the lyrics, for those who don't know the song.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation that under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind**** America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Well maybe I'm the ****head America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

have you heard the song megalomaniac by incubus.

I hear you on the radio
You permeate my screen, its' unkind heart
If I met you in a scene aflight
I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
On principle alone

Hey megalomaniac
You're not Jesus
Yeah, you're no ****ing Elvis
Special, as you know yourself, maniac
Step down
Step down

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent
There was never meant to be only one
To be only one

Hey megalomaniac
You're not Jesus
Yeah, you're no ****ing Elvis
Special, as you know yourself, maniac
Step down
Step down

Yeah
You're no Jesus
You're not Elvis
...
You're no answer

Hey megalomaniac
You're not Jesus
Yeah, you're no ****ing Elvis
Special, as you know yourself, maniac
Step down

That's very presumptuous...Bush/Cheney in '04. ;)

That American Idiot song has no substance to it. Anyway, has anyone heard the song "Franco Un-American" by NOFX? It's VERY left wing, but it's a catchy tune anyhow.

I never thought about the universe, it made me feel small
Never thought about the problems of this planet at all
Global warming, radio-active sites
Imperialistic wrongs and animal rights! No!

Why think of all the bad things when life is so good?
Why help with an "am" when there?s always a "could"?
Let the whales worry about the poisons in the sea
Outside of California, it's foreign policy

I don't want changes, I have no reactions
Your dilemmas are my distractions

That's no way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco, Franco Un-American

I never looked around, never second-guessed
Then I read some Howard Zinn now I'm always depressed
And now I can't sleep from years of apathy
All because I read a little Noam Chomsky

I'm eating vegetation, 'cause of fast food nation
I'm wearing comfortable shoes 'cause of globalisation
I'm watching Michael Moore expose the awful truth
I'm listening to Public Enemy and Reagan Youth

I see no world peace 'cause of zealous armed forces
I eat no breath-mints 'cause their from de-hoofed horses
Now I can't believe; what an absolute failure
The president's laughing 'cause we voted for Nader

That's no way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
No way to go, Franco Un-American
Where can we go, Franco Un-American

I want to move north and be a Canadian
Or hang down low with the nice Australians
I don't want to be another "I-don't-care-ican"
What are we gonna do Franco, Franco Un-American

Whadaya gonna do franco-franco unamerican...?
A good political punk band is Anti-flag, but it's pretty up with anarchism, but a lot of the songs have good messages. Fat wreck chords, the record company of nofx and other awesome bands just put out 2 cd's called "rock against bush"(vol 1 and 2) there's even bands like Sum 41 and The Offspring who have contributed to the albums...they are super awesomely cool.

I hate everything he's done...It's not right at all..but i read an interesting article about our economy could suffer a big blow if Kerry re-elected ... Im from a small town and it would have A HUGE impact on us. My town would become a retirement village.. But hey..if Bush not being re-elected means that innocent people won't be dying anymore...I'll be glad that it's Kerry that won...

If you think that's going to stop with Kerry being elected, you're dead wrong.

I couldn't agree more. I think he'd be better than bush, but he'll still be a puppet for big buisness.

I have to agree... That also goes for Canada seeing as how everyone was so afraid of SARS in the GTA and also West Nile Virus. I can see how sars was a problem but west nile is sorta blown out of proportion...

I still like the song though. Quite catchy.

Hopefully not too dumb to forget about proper grammar. :p

Seriously, stereotyping an entire nation isn't a very intelligant thing to do either. You should maybe question how much you're brainwashed by the media and what you're exposed to in Canada (chances are it's more than you realize).

If Kerry gets in he won't reopen the border to Canadian beef. If your from the prairies you'll know that if the border isn't reopened a lot of farmers will go broke and become bums. You might as well have Bush for another four years so that there is a chance of the border opening to Canadian beef so that the Canadian agriculture industry will once again be strong. The same amount of ppl will die if Kerry is in charge so you might as well give Bush a chance to clean house a bit.

Bush has had too long to clean house.
Until I see his Secretary of Defense resign, I don't think he's done a heck of a job of it.
(And no, it doesn't matter if Rumsfeld had nothing to do with the military's problems. He's responsible whether he authorized it, knew about it, or not).

As for beef, there's a chance Bush will re-open the border to it in his next term. But I certainly wouldn't bet the house on it.

You might as well give Bush another four years any ways. What is some new guy on the scene going to fix?
I'd rather take my chances with Bush because Kerry made a promise. An easy to keep promise unlike other promises politicians make.
