Look for Matt Stajan in the lineup tonight for the leafs. He had an excellent year even though he only played for a part of it. If Nieuwendyk doesn't come back for tonight, I think they shoud break up that line with Ponikorovsky and Antropov. (the skyline) Why? Antropov has taken way too many dumb penalties for a successful round 1 in the playoffs. Here's hoping the leafs can pull of a W tonight, its a huge game... we're now best 2 out of three

We're takin them down tommorow in Montreal and we'll hound it to them in Boston. La p'tit Theo is at the top of his game now, Koivu is wakin up, and I got a gut feeling that Ryder will get rid of his rookie jitters and play big in game 6. They've dominated the last 4 games no questions asked, now it's time to dominate the next 2!!!

I am very worried for the Canucks. They are having a very hard timem trying to score goals. Only 2 regular strength goals well really only one cause the first one they had another person for the delayed penality. They just aren't playing as good as they can.

Here's the way I see it from a non-biased Oilers fan.
The Leafs/Sens series is too close to call right now, HOWEVER, since both Sundin and Neuwendyk will not play tonight...I therefore give the edge in game 5 AND the series to the Senators.
And Flames in 7 too.
Habs, unfortunately, are not going to make it.

I have said Sens over the leafs in Six...I am sticking with it. They have lost their team captain, and he will be out, most likely, for the rest of the season, because even if he doesn't need surgery to "fix him", leafs won't make it to the conference finals, which is how long they predict it will take him to heal... ;)

The good thing about the leafs though is their depth. Even though the leafs lost their captain, the rest have/will step up. It's been shown before. Like two or three years ago, the leafs had soo many key players out of their line up, including the captain, they still one teir series and only lost to Jersey (who one the cup that year).......You don't se Ottawa or most of the other playoff teams able to do that......once their key players are gone, they pretty much lost their games......so don't underestimate the leafs just because they don't have three key players.......tehy have plenty more.... :D

Sundin is only listed as day to day with what is described as a left leg injury. Surgery? Where does this info come from? By analyzing the replay, its quite easy to discern that its nothing more that a sprained left ankle. I predict he could be back as early as game 6 or if needed game 7. Stajan had a strong game out there tonight... he has quite the rookie year going.

As excellent as that sounds, didn't Nolan tweak his knee? I though that his injury had him sidelined for up to three weeks, its only been like what ? 1? 1 and a half? Id be surprised to see him at all in the first round. Whats your source?

I have a theory that you can tell who's gonna win and what type of game it's gonna be from watching the first 10-15 minutes of the first period.... :D :D
I'll think I'll put it to the test :)

Nitrane
17th April 2004, 12:10
No offence, but I disagree with that. many teams in the League this year have come back when down after the 1st. You have to stress the fact that you're playing the whole 60 mins, not just 20. Pace of the game shifts with each goal. Especially those late period killers. In order to win tommorrow, Toronto needs a strong 60 mins, something theyve been unable to do this whole series. So far theyve played lousy one or more of the three... and you're right dont just expect the sens to just roll over and die either.

Yeah but can they win a series? That remains to be seen. This is a totally new experience for that entire team. The hardest thing to do is to eliminate your opponent.

habs 5-2. Theyve got to do something about that Thornton line...granted he has a ribs injury but blind passes and giveaways dont make for successful playoff hockey, whether he's the captain or not. If he wants to lead by example, he should sit and heal and let someone healthy play on that line which otherwsie would be dangerous

I believed he scored a couple minutes into third OT....he cam out of the corner, beat the defenceman in front of the net, and that got the flames goalie (I know his name, just can't spell it) down and shot aboe him......beautiful goal, but it's one of those tha a goalie (or defenceman) should hae been able to avoid if they weren't as tired.....

Well, they went 1-3-0-0 with the Wings this year, so I don't think it's very likely they're going to make it out of the west unless they play the Sharks in the conference final, and even then it's pretty sketchy. But who knows...

I have a very bad feeling that the Canucks are gonna be gone on Monday night. They just don't have the goaltending. And once they get the lead they just play to keep it. They don't try to score more goals. If they start playing like they want to win they will.

I'm dissapointed. I hope Ottawa take's Command. And I hope Calgary take's Detroit out. That way I get the chance to see a Playoff game.

Calgary vs Ottawa is my prediction.

They shouldn't even be concerned about that right now. It's one thing during the regular season, but now they're just rubbing it in.

I think even if the canucks lost last night, that our support for them should not die or waver, anytime it seems that something discouraging happens to them a good chunck of their fans up and abandon them just to come back when they start doing good again. That is POO. I still love the canucks, we'll get 'em next season!

 To summarize:

You said: "I don't care who wins as long as it's a Canadian team."
I said: "I do. I don't want the Flames to win. They've been trashing Edmonton."
You said: "Who is they?"
I said: "The Flames." (to clarify, people who work for the Flames and some of their fans...)
You said: "How does that relate to my post?"

Well, the Flames are a Canadian team and that's how it relates. I hope it's all very clear now. :)

It was amazing, but I believed in them. :D That having been said, the official prediction is Lightning in 5. :( Also, Leafs in 6, Red Wings in 6, and Avalanche in 4, for the other games.

And yes, that was the first time they've ever come back from 3-1 to win the series.

Tonights game is going to be intense.

And I think the Lightning are hot, but they're bound to trip up, and if Theodore stays healthy the Habs should be tough- same goes for the Flames. Kiprusoff is amazing.

If anyone cares: My thoughts on the Leafs vs Philadelphia. (and Ottawa)

First off, Im a true blue leafs fan even through the early 90s and lates 80s, but Ive got to say the Leafs havent played one game to par yet, thats including the Ottawa series. (can you say riding hot goaltender?) All the statiscical info you can pick up nowadays points to a flameout this round against Philly. What do I say? Forget those stats... Leafs in 7, if they can churn out some good games (periods even) to help Eddie

The Blue Tory
21st April 2004, 20:23
Sundin and Nolan are expected back late series... so if the leafs can hold out to them, they'll be in luck

AMothfromWpg
21st April 2004, 20:38
TO= Belfour. Period. That's it.

The rest of the team has to pick it up in order for them to have a chance at overcoming Philly....
Not only is philly well rested, but rewatch how aggresive and hard ottawa was playing them, they should of won by all accounts.
TO is beat up by Ottawa because of the intensity... Philly is fresh and will have more intensity..

This is the year for toronto. Just look at what they (in my perfect world) will have to deal with:

1. Ottawa - Battle of Ontario
2. Phily - Revenge for how many years now? They deserve to be gone.
3. Habs - The old rivalry... supposedly there hasn't been a leafs-habs playoff series in 25 years?
4. Calgary - All canadian final

Please note, this based on a few dozen assumptions.

For all you people who have just hopped on the Leaf bandwagon

LEAFS VERSION (I'm a BeLEAFer) - Originally by Monkees/Rewritten by TaktikL

I thought Leafs winning the cup was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for the Leafs.
Oh, the NHL was out to get the Leafs (duh-duh, duh-duh)
That's the way it seems (duh-duh, duh-duh)
Disappointment haunted all my dreams.

Then I saw the Leafs
Now I'm a beLEAFer.
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind.
I'm a Maple Leaf fan(oh, yeah)
I'm a beLEAFer,
Philly Can't beat them if they tried

I thought The Stanley Cup was more or less a given thing
Seems the more effort they gave the less they got.
Oh, what's the use in Philly trying (duh-duh, duh-duh)
All they're gonna get is pain (duh-duh, duh-duh)
When the Leafs needed sunshine Philly got rain

Chorus

Oh, NHL was out to get the Leafs (duh-duh, duh-duh)
That's the way it seems (duh-duh, duh-duh)
Disappointment haunted all my dreams

Chorus

Yes I saw the Leafs.

I dunno....sure I'd love an All Canadian Final, but I don't think Calgary will get to the finals in the west.......all the odds are against them and they only have a couple superstar players.......I think though that the Easterm finals are going to be interesting if the Habs and Leafs win their respective series....:)

here is another song that i found on the net and it turned out to be true
Here's a little story, about a hockey team
Who just win the Stanley Cup, but only in their dreams

The team is from Ottawa, the Senators is their name
Soon to be inducted into the Golfing Hall of Fame
They say they'll beat our Leaf-ers, ha, now there's a funny joke
'Cause every year at playoff time the Senators always choke

So three cheers for Ottawa, a real team they are not-ta-wa
They can give all that they got-ta-wa
But the Stanley Cup will never go to Ottawa

Ottawa has their Parliament, and MPs in the new
And it's kind of like their hockey team--they talk a lot but don't produce
They're not the brightest either, I really have to say
When the capital of our country spells Canada with a "K"
(Hey, that's Kanata!)

Oh three cheers for Ottawa, they think they've got a shot-ta-wa
But they must be smoking pot-ta-wa
'Cause the Stanley Cup will never go to Ottawa

You better press your plaid pants, it's that time once again
To hear that familiar Ottawa Senator saying, "Tee-off is at 10"
So get ready for the crying, take out your handkerchiefs
You're about to get your as kicked by the Toronto Maple Leafs

Oh three cheers for Ottawa, a lesson they'll be taught-ta-wa
Hossa and Havlat-ta-wa will soon be golfing a lot-ta-wa
What the hell else rhymes with Ottawa, not a whole lot-ta-wa
There's a team we already forgot-ta-wa cause the Stanley Cup will never go to Ottawa
