View Full Version : Join the Army, get a new body...
Here is an interesting article (http://xtramsn.co.nz/news/0,,3772-3536502,00.html) I came across today.
Your thoughts?

I think there was something over here in Oz very similar in 2001-02.
Breast reductions were allowed, but not neccessarily enlargements. I'm not sure if they decided to allow the latter. One of the arguments was it would help improve moral if it increased self esteem.

Thats....interesting. Wonderful what American taxpayers now have to fork out money for... :p

Hmm could be useful in the field, for have-not military such as Canada's. Instead of killing people, why not just simply distract them

I think the Canadian forces paid for a sex-change operation a few years ago, when a (formerly male) soldier fought for and won the right to charge it to the government...correct me if I'm wrong though.

It sounds pretty frivolous, considering that this kind of plastic surgery is largely unnecessary. Now, if the government paid to train surgeons in reconstructing faces and bodies of wounded soldiers and other servicemen and women, that'd be beneficial for all concerned.

Yeah but they aren't neccessarily going to have a bunch of people with conveniently mongolated (yes I know it's not a word) faces for them to practice on, so I guess this is the best they'll get. A nose job kind can come into the reconstruction side of things.
I'm sure there are plenty of peopel in the community that would NEED cosmetic surgery because of accidents/bith defects and the like. That would be more useful to public morale.

It might work wonders for recruiting.
See what beautiful people we have in the army. You can be one of them too!

Its not all that wierd, the Canadian Forces will pay for a sex change if you want it, and it has been done in the past.

And it was a sgt who had the sex change, well they were a sgt at the time anyway.

I think the sex change operation makes more sense than breast enlargement.
This is because someone who requests a sex change obviously has some issues about their gender, far more deeprooted than someone who just wants bigger knockers.
I believe that it would make a HUGE moral difference to those effected.
Now, I wonder if a male could demand breast enlargement surgery. I know I could use a nice set of boobs.

well then you'd might as well enlist and get the surgery. Just think, they'll never go away again in they're attatched to your chest.

These things that the military pays for are not incentaves to join ,, trust me on that. They are an added bonus, and the put you through expensive therapy to make sure that you're making the right decision.
Like sex changes, on civvie street, you need to take 3 years of hormone therapy as well as see an actual therapist who deals with sex changes .. in the military, it's 5 years
For any sort of breat REDUCTION (they won't give you bigger ones, hate to break it to you) they need not only something from your family doctor, but your surgeon, AND they put you through 6 monthys of therapy just to make sure this isn't a fly by the seat of your pants decision
Wondering how I know all this??? My frined just had a sex change paid for the the military, and I'm in the process of getting a reduction, also paid for by the military. I'm just chalk full of knowledge!!!

well, reduction just makes sense to me. those things can get in the way in a combat scenerio. some old tribes used to cut theirs off:S

Breast Reduction is also done by health care with no cost.

I don't think it's so much as the people are actually getting plastic surgery, but that they're being used as practise. How comforting. But then there's also the fact that we've yet to see the long term effects of plastic surgery. So I don't see the sense of sending these military officers are doing it. I mean, it can't be that healthy..
