Just a fun thread to see what everyone is planning to do with their lives after highschool!

I'm probably going to McMaster University for a BSc. in Earth Science with a minor in Astronomy.

I want a post grad in Geology/Volcanology but thats a bit far down the road :P

(Off topic) Is Carrying Place actually a place or is it a joke? Just a question which came to mind. ;)

I'm planning on going to University of Winnipeg for a BA in Criminal Justice. I may do a minor or possibly double major in Psych as well but I have a while to decide.

I've already finished by first year at MUN. I haven't decided yet exactly what I'm doing. However, I'm aiming for something science related at least. Possibly doing a double major of chem and french, then doing secondary education. Or, I may see if I can get into pharmacy. Real exciting stuff. woo

Heading to UBC for Bachelor of Commerce next, would like to major in either human resources or marketing. I originally thought about going to SFU for criminology (they offered me 5000 for a scholarship) but i decided i could do more with commerce after i graduate.

I'm going to Mohawk in September for Office Administration - General. Luckily it's only a one year course cause as time goes on I'm really starting to want to do something with Travel and Tourism.

Many jobs in that area has dried up. If there are any jobs they are grossly underpaided. Now is the time to start making conections because when you graduate it is going to be very difficult to find a job.

I say this because my friends who have graduated from Commerece in the past 4 years have lost jobs or could not find any.

Building on that, while some degrees you can 'do more with', just make sure it's stuff you want to do.

My background is in PoliSci, and I've found it to be very useful in areas that I enjoy (I work for the Feds in Policy). If you like criminology, it may talk longer to 'break into' the field, and the opportunities may be more limited, but you may enjoy those opportunities more.

at the moment i actually do have a few connections via friends of the family who are higher ups in the business world. i think i do need to do a bit of networking though and it was one of my original concerns that i wouldn't be able to find much related work due to the recession but a lot of people i've talked to said that its still uncertain how long it will still last. it could be anywhere from 1 year to 10, but i'm crossing my fingers for a rebound in the near future XD

I've given the decision a lot of thought but I think I've set myself on commerce, i actually like a lot of things associated with human resources and my dad gave me a pretty thorough breakdown of whats involved :) (he used to work with a major hotel company)

As long as it's something that you really want to do, then all the power to you :)

Curious: What was/is the attraction to criminology? Did you talk to anyone 'in the field' about what it's like to work in it?

Im planning on joining the Navy. Reg force. I either want to be a boatswain or a sonar operator aboard a ship.

Right now I'm leaning towards ROTP, RMC. Probably something around Business. Save my money from working in the Navy(which I hope is the element I'll be in), lots of travelling during this time =). Then possibly start a business with a few friends. It' paid education and a guaranteed job afterward University...why not right?

Or, I'm thinking about doing something along the lines of coaching/athlete along either Sailing or Track.(Just a new thought, which hasn't really developed into any sort of planning yet.)

I originally wanted to join the RCMP or continue on to law school and work as a Crown attorney. However I thought about it and assuming I do not make entrance to the RCMP or fail the LSAT repeatedly, there is nothing I can really do with my degree :(. Also my dad has a good friend who actually works with the RCMP, I think he does stuff with gangs and he also used to be with G4 in Hong Kong. One of our officers is a Cpl with the RCMP too and he works in the anti-drug area and I thought it was kind of interesting.

I changed my decision as to where I want to go.

I'm now planning on going to the University of Manitoba to get a BA in Criminology.

After highschool (or in september)- I'm going to be applying for the Naval Reserves then go into reg force after about a year maybe - But I'm going for a job fair tomorrow - where there will be recruiters there for me to talk to - because I'm not 100% sure on what trade I want to get into - maybe sonar op.

I'm pretty sure anynesgoing in it is going in it because it's something that they want to do. It is something that is quite popular nowadays, and VERY selective to get into. :)
