last night i had this weird craving to iron pants and shine boots... i had such a kickin uniform.... i miss it. unfortunatly all of my old cadet friends are old geezers like me now who are too old to be cadets, or they are officers who have their own crazy kind of uniform...

perhaps i should start some sort of service where people pay me to do uniforms... lol.... is that even legal? i remember people at camp doing that but i think they got in trouble. i just miss doing it, it was so soothing and relaxing, just sitting there for hours going round and round and round or iron and starch and iron and starch .....

I have my uniform all crisply ironed, boots nice and shiney, medal and gunner's chain properly in place with white ceremonial gloves poking out of the left breast pocket, haha, I even have the sleeves pinned neatly to the side so that the badges show nicely when you look at it. It was real tuff admitting to myself that it was over, so that was my way of saying goodbye, being a rediculous perfectionist I guess. It will probably stay like that, hung up in the corner, collecting dust, for some time I suppose, untill I need to move out or give into the urge to throw it on and wear it around the house, haha(jokes).

Haha, we should start up a nation wide ex-cadet uniform service, haha, if your interested we'll "iron out" the details later

...buh, duh, buh, ching

ummm..am i under the impression that you kept your uniform after you left cadets? aren't you supposed to return it, so a new cadet will have the chance at wearing one?

well technically yes, but....

...yoink

*runs outa the room realy fast to avoid suspision*

...haha

but seriously, my supply officer was cool with it, I'd given 5 good years and the uniform I had was the old material so they had no problems with me keeping it, as for the boots, I had invested a good $50 having them double soled so they let me keep them. The LSM and gunners chain were both awarded to me so there's no need to return that ;)

Oh forget it.

I do not jest. I would send you a picture of our roadsign if we had one. It gets stolen at least 2-3 times a year because everyone wants a sign that says Alaska on it. Yes ... I live in Alaska, PEI. Named because we had the first schoolhouse in the area during the gold rush. The pioneers thought education was "as precious as gold" so they named the town Alaska. :)

Seriously.

Edit: PEI also has: Mermaid, Fredericton and Toronto.

I didn't have to return mine...my squadron lets all cadets who "retire" keep their uniforms.

It has sat in my closet for 2 years.

There are certain things you are technically allowed to keep.

(Sea Cadets):
-Gunshirt
-Turtle Neck
-Wool Socks
-White top
-Toque
-Gloves
-Badges
-Insignia (cap brass for those of you staff cadets)

Which means anything else should be returned :)

I personally can't wait to get all of my CIC uniform so I can get back into a uniform, I do miss it!

Darnit all, you know I do miss it...

Last time I wore my uniform, which I do miss aswell, was at a funeral for an Officer who I had know for a very long time.

I thought it a fitting tribute to the man that helped me get into that uniform.

I hope everyones last time in there uniform was a more joyous one than mine.

Actually, I do not miss my cadet uniform too much. The last time that I had it on, it was for my Coxs'n Passing of commandment parade, and I only wore my uniform for that parade. I took it off right after, and since then, I did not put it on again. Actually, after four years in my closet, I will be giving my tunic to a chief of my unit this week.

I was happy to let go of my uniform, because to me, it was a piece of evidence of my adulthood. I am no longer a cadet anymore, (I think that this was a bigger transition in my life, than turning 18). And in the words of a great man, Wilson Wilson Jr., who quoted another great man, who I can not remember at time time:

When I was a child, I thought like a child, I acted like a child, and I played like a child. Now that I am a man, I have put away childish things.

Other people have ask how some people were permitted to keep their uniforms. This is the reason. You are permitted to keep gunshirts, short-sleeved shirts - because of the direct contact with your skin, cap/berets/wedges - if they can not be used by someone else, boots - after a three year period because it will be unsafe to give them to someone else, tuques, socks, pt gear, and I believe that it is all. Some commanding officers will let their cadets who have served the unit honourably keep other parts of their uniforms - i.e., tunics - as a gift of their loyal service. Guiters and webbing belongs to the unit, and can not be given away.

Good day!
I said good day!

It's an unwritten thing...

When you spend almost your whole adolescence as a cadet keeping your uniform is some what given.

I love that post! <CTJJ Stevenson>

Thanks for the real quote sir. However, let me just say that being a cadet has not been a childish thing for me, because I love the Canadian Cadet Movement. My life as a cadet will always be an important part, and will be memories that I will always keep.

However, I guess that I am not so sad to be giving my cadet uniform away because I have another uniform know, and I got too many uniforms .... I think that I might have more uniform parts at the moment then clothes that I actually wear (I have to really go shopping).

Encore une fois ... bonne journée à tous!

i definatly miss my uniform, it was kick ***. When i worked on it, and made perfect it just felt good, controled and very disiplined. I guess it sounds kinda sad, but when you have mastered your uniform you can do anything. Now im in the army, and we only wear DEU's for big parades....on training nites all i have to do is blacken my boots, put my combats in the dryer for 15min, and delint my beret. Not exactly hardcore.

I don't know if I'll miss my uniform or not. I think I may miss it more than actually being in cadets... but I don't know about that, either.
In my squadron, we're not technically allowed to keep them, but I think that some of our retirees just don't give them back. But there's not much point in giving them back, anyway, because the Sup O usually just orders new stuff, rather than re issuing old stuff.
