Im in the process right now. All I need to do is get my letters of reccommendation back, and figure out two other choices for trades. Right now all I know is I want to be an NWT, but Im looking at Comm Tech, and possibly MP or Mar Eng

Yah, 1 Svc here is going in the fall, and there is a lot of talk about if Op Halo keeps open that the support aspect would land in 1 GS's lap. That would be awsome.

My jeep team partner knows the Col of 1 CMBG he's really good friends with his kid. Great resource, anyways the Col said that the people who will go to Haiti next are some responce team from within the Brigade group....apparently they have guys that have being training for that sort of mission. Please dont be like me and get your hopes up when your unit says your going to Haiti :(

I considered it - did my familiarisation visits for various regiments including Royal Artillery and the Household Cavalry and was all set to go to the Regular Commissions Board, but have opted for a career in financial services instead.

I got accepted into the reg force, but I'm chosing not to go for reasons of education in BC sounds much more appealing than the military .. lol .. to some degree .. I might do it after I'm done school so that I can go officer .. :)

You applied, got accepted and then turned it down? Not being condensending or anything, but then why go through the hoopla to even apply to the Reg force, if you're not going to go through with the training....

I did the same thing last year for RMC, applied, was accepted though not in the MOC (Artillery instead of Pilot/Air Nav) nor the educational program that I wanted (Junior = 1 year post-CEGEP at St. Jean. QC instead of Senior = direct to RMC at Kinston, ON).
I turned it down because I wasn't willing to be an arty officer for five years nor was I willing to go back to Grade 12 having completed first year university. So, life interferes...you have to make the choices that you will be happy with (even five years in the future). I am still perfectly willing to join the CF when I finish my degrees here at the U of C, but now I've gone to far to start again (I think...)
Besides, I've worked myself into a nice little niche here in Calgary being a CIC-wannabee (hopefully before July) and all the various oher trappings of a life-uninterrupted.

I joined the Militia after retiring from Cadets at 19. Six years later I joined the RegF as a Pilot, haven't looked back since.

I was in Cadets, and am now in the reg force. I am a Naval Electronics Tech. (Tactical) and I am quite enjoying what I am seeing of the program so far. It involves a lot of training for a few years before one can be QL5 qualified.
One thing I didn't know about this trade before I joined was that an NE Tech. has the opportunity to go to a university in St. Johns Newfoundland to get a 2 year diploma all paid for by the military. It is a civilian diploma that you will always have with you for the rest of your life.
The good thing about it is that while you are there at the university, you are getting paid your Reg force salary and getting the free eduacation at the same time! Now you can't really get that just anywhere. Once you get the diploma after the 2 years, you are promoted to Leading Seaman and you are making about 50G a year, only 2 years after joining the forces. I applied for this last week, and I'm waiting to hear if I get in or not, but from what I hear, I most likely will.
There's a handfull of trades in the Reg Force as an NCM that gives you the chance of getting a 2 year diploma with the trade; it's great! :D
Cheers!

i didnt sat anything was wrong with them. I just wanted to know who here had joined the reg force, i was curious.
I'm also in the process right now of applying for the reg force. I have my physical in a couple of days. I can pass everything except the hand grip (stupid years of school :p )
And if all go well I have my interview on the 23, one or two day before leaving for camps.
Those are the 3 choice that I apply for:
291 (http://www.recruiting.forces.gc.ca/engraph/career/tradeinfo_e.aspx?id=291)
215 (http://www.recruiting.forces.gc.ca/engraph/career/tradeinfo_e.aspx?id=1147)

I was wondering for people who join and completed the Basic Recruit Training Course. How was it? I had friend telling me it was a walk in the park, others telling me it was the worst time of their life. Is there thing that they don't show in the video that I should be expecting?
When I was watching the video in school, the teacher was also looking at it. Told me I was crazy and that I should go to CEGEP considering I got accepted in a programme where it suppose to be hard getting in.

I just finished it two months ago today actually. It was great, it was all that I expected it to be. It had it's difficult times, and it had it's easy times. There were times when you even felt like saying "Why am I here?" And there are times when you say "this is the best thing I could have done for myself."
Basic training was the best time of my life; you get to learn cool new things, make lots of new friends, get yelled at and laugh about it later, get paid to make your bed in the morning, and have a great time too!
There are times when it can get edgy too, not really knowing what to expect the next day, thinking about whether or not you will pass your next inspection or even get another directive added to your file and get that much close to being failed.
I can say that being in cadets helped me out BIG TIME. With cadets in my background when I went there, I already knew what to expect and what sort of training I was going to be getting into. It helped by knowing the CATO's because a lot of them are the same in the CF; and, when it came time for tests like Drill, First Aid and Military Knowledge, I was that much better at it.
I had a blast, I would probably even do it again.... lol but not any time soon. :D
Cheers!

Excellent! I hope that all goes well for you.
I see the odd officer cadets from RMC here on base, they got that armoured fist on their wedges and berets; they must be doing their summer training for their trades.

I always wanted to be a fighter pilot.. but then I got glasses so now I can't. So I don't think I will.. however I might look at going to the RAF, or after I finish school (aircraft mechanic) I might go to the CF for the apprentice time.
options options.
