That camp is very well kept, considering it's older than you and you father(I think)!! Just cuz you may wake up with a thin coat of dust on you, or the foods under and over cooked(at the same time) doesn't mean it isn't the greatest camp on earth. Plus I am Agnew, and everything I post on CW is inserted into an sql table with its associated topic and post id.
I love Vernon. I could live there..except the winter.. I'd freeze and DIE. I hope to go there. I applied for an exchange, but I kinda hope I don't get no exchange, I want to staff. Probably wont get the exchange anyways. They only seem to accept the brain children of Canada. Never Kevin, who scored low...low...low. Anyways. Yeah, I'm hoping for staff @ Vernon.

I loved the food, we had our own cooks, so, that wasnt a problem, the buildings were falling apart, that is not well kept. I just think its time for an overhaul for that place.
RyanForbes

its been time for an overhaul for 50 years!
but you must admit that other camps have their faults too
ive been to Vernon, Quadra, and Albert Head, and i would say that Vernon is my favourite, even though its missing some things, and needs some new buildings, etc

Winters in the Okanagan Valley are mild compared to anywhere in the Alberta. Hardly any snow in the town, only up the hills.
I'll be visiting on a semi-regular basis. I wish I could just spend one more summer there.

Vernon gets lots of snow in the winter, down in the valley too
in 2002, there was a foot of snow covering the base, with more coming all spring break

yes, I would agree that cadets at Vernon do have a tendancy to abuse equipment, and soem of the stuff just needs repairs and renovations, But I've been to Blackdown, Connaught, Albert Head, and I think overall ,the facilities at Vernon, and the way it;s set up is the best. (I've also been to a few British cadet camps, now those are cool! :D )

"Abuse Equipment," that's Cadets generally. More over it's Youth. Vernon is terribly kept and will fall down by 2010. It's the only Army Cadet camp that hasn't had some sort of funding infusion since 200, and that includes Blackdown's Tents. It's the worst CSTC I've seen, and I've seen 7. I almost applied to Rocky for the sole reason that Vernon is such a dump.
Anyways I'm HOPING (but not likely) to be a PlWO in Echo (basic), but I'm expecting Sgt.

The Okanagan does NOT get lots of snow. Maybe in 2002, but not anyother year. I live here ;) .

You need to go to Rocky Mountain to see a tip top camp.
Lacks tradition though that vernon has. Too bad you can't paint the cannon anymore!

Vernon seems to have something... 'new' or 'renovated' each year. Wether it's new windows on the FEMALE or BAND barracks, or new siding on the FEMALE barracks, there seems to be a few updates. I also heard that the band(bravo w/e)barracks(male) didn't smell as bad as in past year.. Maybe they have some new tactic in selecting cadets. Something like a little box on the application forms for basic...

I was in Basic Band one time. I think the smell had to do with the communal shower. Some people just weren't a fan of it. They got put on shower parade.
Now there's stalls in there, and didn't smell any time i visited. You're probably just going by rumours.
BTW... I was only in band coy ONE year ;)

The new windows are siding are a neccessity that they have to put there. If they didn't 100% have too, they wouldn't. I noticed the band shacks had broken windows when we went to sue them for NSCE this year. It wasn't too cold in there though, good thing or we woulda had a riot :)

I don't think they were rumours.. I smelt it myself. Band seems to have the worst barracks each year(that I have been). I think it is the wood...gets wet and smells. Maybe not. I dunno, but it seems that it really smells funny. But I don't smell funny.. I swear...:o except the time I jumped in the laundry truck.
BTW... I was only in band for..two years. Yeah, and the stalls are nice little things. I don't like showering with old perverted CLI-ers..when I was a basic. :S

What years? I knew almost everyone in Band coy minus the basics the years I was in vernon('97-'99?). I was in the band barracks alot. And I was there a few times this past summer. Smelt like anyother barracks that had Basic's and CL's.
You don't get a fresh air smell until CLI! By the time you are half way through CL you have shower lessons.
PS: H10 had a peculiar smell this past summer.

I went 2000 and 01. Yeah, I learned how to shower in basic. And I really grasped the concept in my CL year, along with the 'power shower'. Although..in CLI, power shower goes out, and warm long showers come in. By long, I mean more than a minute, lol. Last day of camp is always the best shower.
H10 should get major renovations. It's always too hot or too cold. Mostly too hot. At least the barracks have some cool spots. The smell I never really noticed. I think it had something to do when our CI told us to triple our dosage of pit stick before coming in the music room. Ahh...yes, wet armpits, that smell like smell... Wasn't around H10 in 2002, and I wasn't accepted for camp in 2003(durn paper pushers..:O).

Russel told me like a year ago that aiming high would be the best route to getting in the general cadre/coy you wanna get in, because if you're cut from Sgt wherever you wanted to go then you're 'up for grabs' so to speak. A WO, however, can stay in the cadre/coy as an Sgt... so that was my justification for WO. And all 6 of us got very good NSCE staff reports and the staffing meeting for VACSTC was 5 days after NSCE :)

Meh, I don't think you can say ones 'better' than the other. But the people who are in mil band have to work a lot harder to sound anything near comparable to the P&D. If the mil band was only as dedicated as the P&Ders, there'd be no comparison on who's better.
But reveille just isn't reveille without a trumpet. I think it'd sound like horse doo doo coming from a bag pipe. lol.

well in a *perfect* world, people without NSCE would be put into the MCpl/clerk positions, first years with NSCE would be put into section commander positions, 2nd year staff and people with advanced courses would be plt WOs

It's total BS when they told us at Rocky that we'd be PlWOs the next summer, and I knew it when they said it... I wish they wouldn't lie like that. However, apparently at some camps (Blackdown) where the NSCE Quals are fewer, Senior Courses do help. At Vernon it's just a line of space on your CF51...

Matt deserves to be there, he'll be excellent for the position! High energy and enthuisasm are definatly important for Adventure :p God knows, it would test me... Frankly I'm think about 75% of the positions are totally random. Myself and at least 8 others Ive talked to got really wierd stuff.. then again I know 2 that got excactly what they asked for.

Have any of you done this before. A friend or aquaintainces comes up to and is all like "Hi (Insert Your Name Here), how are you?" and you go "That's (Rank)(Last Name) to you!". It's especially bad when it's your DCO, lol!! My Sgt did that to me on parade last week. I was acting as SSM, and the CO comes to 1 troop, asks "How many cadets are supposed to be here?" and she says "It's not my troop, sir, it's Kevs"... Me, the CO, and the MWO all looked at her funny.
