Hmm, I'd have to argue that. How many cadet organizations let their cadets participate in search and rescue missions? Or any of the other things CAP cadets do.

UK ATC are not allowed in choppers over water becuase fewyears ago a Wessex SAR helicopter with 7 cadets in crashed killing all the cadets, was at RAF Valley. All the crew survive but unfortuanly the aircadets didnt, :(

It's one thing to have pride in your countries program, it's another to put other programs down or shove your program in someone else's face. Keep it friendly.

Many Canadian Sqns to have SAR operations, albeit not at the level tha CAP does.
Different focus :)

Also you do not have to PAY to be a member of a RCACS.

We dont get paid unless we are uniformed adult staff.

Getting 'paid' for camps is a bit deceiving. Staff cadets receive a daily rate of pay equal to CF NCM rates, but that's because they are hired on contract.
Cadets on course receive a training bonus to offset any costs (boot polish, too many sodas in the canteen), etc, of $60 CAD a week to a maximum of six weeks.
CF Officers that staff a cadet unit are paid 2.5 days a month (3.5 for the CO), as they are on Class A service with the Forces. We also get paid for courses and any contracts we accept.
Most of the time spent at the cadet unit is volunteer :)

2.5 days = 5 sessions. So that's 4 LHQ nights, and a half day on the weekend. In theory, our min commitment.
I'm not sure how it works for the Zone; it may be different.
If you're in the CIC Branch for the pay, I've got a nice cardboard box you can have to live in ;) We're part-time, specially trained, in the community.

ATC is great, and no, I've never been on a SAR sortie, but I have been on a joint forces refuling sortie over the north sea, in the cockpit of an E3-D with a US KC-135 tanker less that 100m ahead refulling us, that is a sight to see I tell ya!
Sad to say it tho, my last year :( been in the corps for 7 years now and its comming to an end, I apply for the RAF this year, if I don't get in the RAF tho I may come back to the ATC as a staff member, adult sergeant or something :).
