I recently posted on a topic that a Sgt. from my Sqn. started. It is in regards to the cadet biathlon. Please find the text below and if possible, could someone please answer the question in bold.

"I am from the same Sqn. as the person who created this "room". Our Sqn. is new-5 years. My primary concern is about getting an officer who holds their RSO certificate. If your Sqn. doesn't have an officer with those qualifications what are the alternatives. Is there any way to borrow an officer ect. I would hope that all would agree that a Sqn. shouldn't be exempt from participating in the cadet biathlon simply because they don't have the accredited officers. So what happens in that case...My last question is where can you actually ski and at the same time legally be able to bring with you an air rifle. Not to mention that you'll be firing it off. Thanks in advance for all your help!"

Yes there is. You must have your CO talk to the CO of another unit with an RSO-qualified officer and try to arrange to have them come work with your unit. I've seen it done a couple times. There's issues of pay and whether time is counted or not, but let the COs and the officer work that out. Also, the RSO course is online, so any CIC officer in the corps can do it and get certified without ever leaving home.

Out of pure curiosity, why is this in the CW Legion? I think it would be better in CC, or possibly (not really) in one of the elemental forums.

As Joel said, yes, it's quite possible. That's what my Corps has done for the past few years.

What we usually do is find out when the other units are going out to the ski centre, and we just tag along at the same time.

And are you talking about skiing with an air rifle? if so, WHY?

Isn't biathlon using a .22cal rifle? I've never done winter biathlon, but even in summer I've never seen anything but a .22 being used.

When we do the training for our team we only focus on the skiing aspect on the trail. When we have them practice the shooting part they're in the Drill hall using the Daisies and the drop down targets, we also have them practice on rollerskiis or running so they're used to shooting with an elevated heart rate.

Like Joel said, let your CO and officers sort it out. If there is enough interest I'm sure your CO will try to arrange it.
