My university (McMaster University) closed today, for honestly like no reason. I got up at 8 am and walked across campus for dance practice and it wasnt that bad. Like if your from the north you definitly have worse days. There's a little rain and its a little bit slippery but if you leave a little earlier you'll be fine. Back home in waterloo ontario, it could be completely icy like everything and we still had to go to school.
I mean Yay snow day! But for university students, i mean one class could be like an entire unit gone, hard earned money gone, and time wasted for people who communte and didnt know. I mean its nice enough outside that you could drive here and not even know if u werent listening to the radio.
I dont know what do you guys think?

The commute into Hamilton from Burlington today was less than rosy. All the trains were delayed out of Union Station and the full fleet of buses wasn't running. Everything was covered in ice -- brought back memories fo 1998, albeit on a much smaller scale.
I got onto the Mac Express at Burlington GO and we got word about 5 minutes later that school was closed. I'm never one to complain about snow (or ice) days!
In any case, it may not have been so bad in Hamilton proper, but the commute for many students and professors would have been less than rosy. Also, Mac shuts down whenever the Hamilton-Wentworth school boards shut down, as was the case today.

Here, MUN doesn't shut down unless metrobus cancels all the city busses. There has been some days that we'll have class in the morning (even though the entire city is shut down) but because there are still some busses running there is still classes. The university website announces if there are closures too so you don't go out just to find it closed.
Sometimes they'll re-open or close later in the day too depending on the weather.

University of Manitoba like never closes. I mean it's cold at -50 (last week) walking across that campus but nope...classes were in full swing.

My school never closes. I routinely walk the halls of Carleton University at 2am.
I'm always sort of surprised...how is Carleton protected from the pranks that some university-aged students inevitably come up with?

same here, most of the buildings and tunnels do get locked around midnight or so. The Earth Science building is always open (having an elevator going into the parking garage doesn't really help) though - some students (mostly honours students) have been known to sleep in there. Our society room has some pretty comfy couches and working late sometimes it's pointless to go home at 3am just to come back at 6 or 7.
