So I'm just tossing this out there, but would it be possible to change the Status Bars from 'time on site' to a post count?
Say every 200 posts you get a silver bar, every 400 a gold bar? Then when you get some horribly high count it becomes a solid gold bar?
Comments?

Excellent.
We could also keep the 'New User' title for about..25 posts?

We had that system on the "old" CW, using stars and wreaths and other manner of doo-dahs.
This resulted in unscrupulous members artificially inflating their post count by trolling through threads and agreeing with everybody. Ridiculous amounts of posts under five words led to the introduction of a word minimum (considerably higher than it is today), but this only resulted in the advent of the infamous "ACME Post Filler" and variations thereof. The result of this was that the site's noise-to-signal ratio went through the roof and the boards became impossible to navigate.
The "Red Button Event" ended all this, and brought some relevance back to the site. Although today's noise-to-signal ratio is (in my opinion) arguably as high as in the "Stars and Wreaths" heyday, I do not even want to imagine what would happen if we brought back post count-based status indicators.
There are other ways to distinguish quality posting, but I will not get into that (should be studying right now).
For the record, the "Stars and Wreaths" period forms part of the "Second CW" era.

This was brought up as a suggestion in the open chat session - And the solution that was reached with the users and staff in the discussion was that the current system would change to allow for inactive users to lose their bars, until becoming active again.
As previously stated, the reason we will not return to a post count based reward system is to dissuade users from being rewarded for 'filler' or 'inflation' posts.
There was also a time that the only way to get a custom avatar was to get 10,000 posts. *shudder*

Ah dang, where was I when this was going on?
I like the current system. Sure my pretty gold bars are pretty, but that's just it, they don't do anything.

Perhaps the bars could be replaced with the words "Inactive user" for all inactive users.

I'm fairly certain that you would have hated it then....incidences of postwhoring would be far too commonplace to enjoy the board as it is now...

I don't think we need to make it that obvious. If a member hasn't posted in 6 months, odds are small that you are going to be reading their posts anyways, so you are rarely going to come across these member's posts anyways, unless you browsing through the back pages of the forums.

Hi, one thing I noticed is that since you decided to take away status bars when users are inactive for a month....well what's going to happen during the summer when everyone's at camp?

I'm thinking if you just send them a PM confirming that you're going to camp - they'll put you on 'camp break' or something.

If you read the thread that ASLt Braet linked to, you will note that the time period we chose is 6 months, not 1. You need not worry about being away for one month.
And, as mentioned in that thread, if someone logs back in after a period of inactivity, it will be noted each month when we do the "housekeeping." They will be moved back to their regular status at that time. If they want to move back more quickly than that, they can send a PM to myself or NCDT Merrall.
