I agree. Canadians are largely ignorant of their history, and so is everyone else.
And we deserve more credit for the D-day landings, even though most Canadians wouldn't notice the difference.

I think it's a pop culture thing. We all knows lyrics to songs we hate, and have memorized what commercial jingles are associated with which mass produced unnecessary hygine product - but our own history?

I think everyone should know more about everyone else's history as well. So many people comment on the way things work in the world, and how things really should be run - but without a knowledge of HOW things came to be and what things have failed before and why they failed...people's comments don't hold much water.

I have to agree with WArren, that was the first thought that came to mind when the quition came about, "why?"

I thoiught well canadians haave no movies, no songs, nothing to help us remember... i watch every history channel show they have on the candians in war, but thats jsut me.

Canada has no hollywood... we could have one, but who wants to watch a canadian film right? i meen afterall there jsut full of junk, and nothing intelectual or have any meaning,*total sarcasm by the by*

I saw a movie about Dieppe. Very well done. I also saw one called Ike-Countdown to D Day. Good movie, but very little said about Canada. Mostley British and American. They didn't compleatly leave us out tough.

THere was a movie i had seen, i forget the name, but it was about a project by putting together canadian troops with americans to pull off a mision, and the americans were all drinking losers who were highly unprofesionl, and the canadians were ahrdcore soldiers who were there to jsut do there job... and they beat the crap out of the americans in ab ar fight :D lol... but I think it's hard to sell canadians these days as militaristic at any point in time, simply becasue we're considered too peacefulk now

The Devil's Brigade.

Best movie ever.

And it is hard to sell Canadians as being, in any way shape or form, military.
In my history class, I couldn't believe that the teacher was discouraging people from holding a high opinion of our country's military as a combat force.
When someone said they were known as reliable, resourceful, highly professional troops, he was shut down. Apparently, Canada is just a peacekeeping nation, and our military is not a combat force, but a peacekeeping force.
Disgraceful......

A good article, and I agree with him.

I reccomend his book.

Before blaming someone that forgot the Canadian. We should look at how canadian look at their History. Most of us dosn't know it. The rest only want to know the part that we want to remember. A lot refuse to remember some part.

es we want to remember our country's military as a combat force.
But when we talk about the miltary we try to forget when the Candian Army fired and kill inocent Canadian in 1917, we forget the racism that existed in the army, we forget the role that the Canadian forces play in the 70s.

So do I think it's sad that we where forgotten? Yes, but then I remember that some people just want to remember the part that serve their best interest. in that case, try to help relation between the US and France.
