how about a third option of "I think the media is being absolutly rediculous in it's relentless coverage and manipulation of the issue"
or another of "either way, it's about bloody time someone braught the issue of our lower class citizens to the light of day"
PS, I believe if you listen to what Jack Said, know of his past and continuous advocacy for the issue and consider the dismal affects Martins fiscal dicipline over the last 10 years has had on our Urban centres then what he said is rather justified.

lol I was thinking of this while on my shift last night...
I personally like this idea... cause it is keeping him from attacking the CPC...
Other than that its a ridiculus idea...

Agreed. Did anyone, ANYONE see on the news Jack actually SAYING it? I didn't. I watched/listened to about 5 different networks yesterday. I still haven't heard the words coming from Layton's mouth.

the footage of Mr. Layton's accusations were shown on every network for their 12pm, 6pm and 11pm news
CBC's fact finding survey found no "significant rise in homeless deaths" in Toronto over the past 5 years (when PC was in power in Ontario). the death rate was between 35-40 per year, every year, since 1999

I watched the news. I didn't see Mr Layton saying that. I saw some woman saying it. But not him.
The reason why Layton said that is because he is trying to get homelessness a bigger issue in this election. He surely know he is not going to be the next prime minister but he might as well do whatever he can for them.
