I'm wondering if you guys know any good cadet units in the Edmonton Area. I know there is at least 6 Army Cadet Corps, so I have lots of choice, would there be any you recommend? Also, does anyone knows if there's a corps with a pipe band (Air or Army?)

Thanks!

Cadets units...meaning any element, or are you staying with army? I don't know much about any of the army (or sea units for that matter) so I can't really say much about those.
When are you coming to Edmonton though?

Edmonton Alberta?

Loyal Edmonton Regiment (Squadron having difficulies) is trying to start up a pipe band and I also think PPCLI is to ( I know they have a drum line). Anothor band is 570 RCACS which has a pipe band but not the best of people run the squadron ( I was in the squadron)

As well...don't forget that there are many areas surrounding Edmonton such as Sherwood Park, St. Albert, etc. all with units of their own.

You know whats funny...I barely know any people from MY school going to the Faculty of Arts next year, and here I am finding people on CW. I guess I'll be seeing you guys there.

And Emily, buses most definitely go to Sherwood Park from Edmonton and back. I live in the Park, you can trust me on that one.

Go Check Out 570 RCACS. Pretty Decent Squadron, former Bulldog myself. I know the cadets, CI's and Officers who run the Pipe Band there and there a solid bunch of indivuduals.

And Miss Carter you would be wise to hold your tounge about the composition of a good squadron such as 570

Great you had a great experence with 570.
They are really anti Army Cadets. I experenced it in a harsh way. Ex Bulldog.
There are a few great people in the squadron, however.

699 Jasper Place RCACS here on the west end... we're always forgotten because we're so small :(... amyways... we don't have a band or anything, because we're small, but an awesome biathlon team, and great esprit de corps!

Most of the Cadet Corps and Squadrons are pretty centralized in Edmonton, so you shouldn't have a problem getting to them from the U.

It's not that they are anti Army Cadet, the seniors of the squadron are very tight knit, and extreamly proud of who they are. Don't paint the whole squadron that way just because you had a bad experience there. I know you didn't advance very far, but remember at the time the squadron was (and still is for my liking) top heavy. You did your job, and now that a majority of the seniors are leaving this year advancement will come fast in the next little while. Again, don't let that leave a bad taste in your mouth.

The Pipe Major does the best he can with what he has, and he has very little support from his higher-ups, rather they support the band, but nobody want's to put any time in.

All of the senior band members in the band at 570 are very accomplished pipers and drummers, playing with major competition bands through out alberta.

The Pipe Major and Sargent try to teach but, they should be worrying about the playing band, not teaching in the place of the paid instructers who just don't bother to show up.

Once again, don't paint the whole squadron as a bunch of "Army Cadet haters", just because your experience left a bad taste in your mouth.

Thanks Dix for letting me use this, as I am still not able to post on my account.

Peace and PMA

I knew, comming Air that I would need to sacrifice almost every thing, which I did.I had no problem with that.

I had a comment by some authoritive members of the squadron about me as a formor army cadet, which had put a huge scar on how I look at 570.
I do not want an old Army cadet to feel as the way I do.

What was said? and if it's from the certian flight Commander i'm thinking of, you should just desregard and take it as a moron speaking, if it's an officer though that's quite a bit more serious.

I am very sensitive about what was said. So I do not want to post what was said.

I am not going to elaborate more on this issue. For the sake of 570 ,individuals and myself.

There are great people in 570 like WO I Commer and F/Sgt Alexander. (sp?)

This is Dixon again...
were the comments made by a one R. MacLennan?

If so i know where you coming from.
I had great experiences. Doesnt mean I didnt have bad ones. Had I remained with 570. Id still be an LAC and never have done anything because the CO, for reasons i do not know. Hated me. However my friends there COmer, Schuurman, Knichel etc made it bearable for me and i persevered.
