Hello all... My new drum major needs the most up to date info on the placement for the drum major badge for air cadets.
I was looking for an illustrated instruction but I could not find it... Frankly, I didn't look that hard but I would hope that someone is privy on the newest amendments to the CATOs regarding the drum majors.
Thanks!!!
Cheers
EDIT: it's for a SGT.. Not a WO... Thanks

I'm a sergeant and a drum major, so given the proper information, I can help yeh.
Care to tell me what music level he has (if any,) etc? What octagons on the left sleeve?
Basically, given those, I can tell you what you need to know.

If the cadet has shooting or fitness qualifications, those would be centred on the left arm, immediately above the cuff. 1 cm above that and centred on the arm would be the Prof badge. 1 cm above that would be his music level (1 - V), and immediately above that would be the drum major badge. If the cadet does not have a music level, the drum major badge would be 1 cm above the proficiency badge. I am not certain on this last part, but if the cadet does not have any range or fitness qualifactions, I THINK the prof badge is immediately above the cuff.

hello, this is the DM, or soon to be i hope, that CI Dumaran is refering to.
i have checked the cato's on cadets.ca about the placement of the DM badge and it only gave instructions for placement if you are a warrant, which i am not.
off of what i am reading i am indicating that i am to put it 1cm above th lvl. prof. badge (which is on,ly lvl. 2 for me) - or if i have completed lvl. 3 this year but our sqn is still to have our annual inspection.. do i still wear the lvl. 2 or ask for a lvl. 3 prof badge?... i also have my CFT badge which i allready hav centered below the prof. badge, 1 cm down..edge touching the cuff?.. i guess it would be easier to say that the prof badge is cntered above the CFT, rather vise-versa. I had asked previously but just wanted to confirm... is it one cm from the top edge of the prof. badge to the center of the DM or to the lowest corner of the badge??
all help is greatly appreciated

Check out Annex F, Appendix 9, page F9-1/2 (http://www.cadets.ca/_docs/cato-oaic/5504F9_b.pdf). The music badge (lyre) is simply replaced by the DM badge if you hold that appointment. With the bottom of the DM badge being the lowest point.

I particulary like that touch, sir.
Cheers!
PS I think my DM is well on his way to getting it looking good...

That's a good question. Never heard of that before. Generally, there is only one DM. And although it doesn't address that specific situation, the Music Badge Policy (CATO 55-04, Annex E) (http://www.cadets.ca/_docs/cato-oaic/5504E_b.pdf) is written in the singular, i.e. "the Drum Major" (not "Drum MajorS"), "the cadet holding that appointment" (not "the cadetS"). So the inference is that there is only one.

Hmm, 'tis very interesting.
2 DMs? Personally, I've never seen such a situation, other than one is leaving and another is appointed.
