Study all your level books but concentrate on level 1 and 2

I had to write a WO test. Did okay. They made all of us write it even though we were already WO2's.

My Sqd. never has to write any tests... it's great. With the exception of GCK and drill, tests... we avoid. Our Sqd. is all about the "Oh... you're a good (insert rank here)... let's give you a promotion." This works until you reach a certain level, then it's "hmmm... who's the oldest and will age out first.... they get the Squadron!"

We write WO tests at 878, it pretty much covers all areas of cadets (flying, survival, GCK, Nav, Met ... ect) but it also covers a LOT of wing drill! That was the part that I know I had trouble with...but I don't know where else to study wing drill except the 201...

Yeah I didn't have to write a test either. But I did have to appear before a selection board, mainly b/c I had my father as CO, and (as usual) abstained in order to have non-biased decision made. Our league rep and ACO made the decision.

But for WO1, there was only me eligible so... yeah... our new CO did it. LOL... after bugging her for like a month.

......

I guess I dont see the point of WO testing. Those that are promoted to WO are of a high standard, or at least should be, and have a broad knowledge of the cadet system . I guess it all boils down to the quality of training at the Level 1 and 2 points.

I believe this is a good step in the right direction. For well run units, the tests are of negligiable importance, however, there are many units out there who are not run very well, and I believe can definately benefit from it..

See for our squadron a promotion is usually given if you fill out a form and right a narrative on why you think that you diserve it and why they should choose you and then if they feel you diserve it you recieve the promtion if not you just keep try..or what ever...we have never had tests before this and it seemed to work fine. But hey i am ready for anything that comes my way..

i never had to write a test!! But i did have to write a page report on why i deserve Wo2 and i had a to appear infront of a selection board aswell. and as far as im concerned that is they way it should be too. you should get permoted for your perfomance as a cadet and a leader not how you do on a peice of paper. But thats my opinion!

I never wrote a test either... but i was like 2 weeks from aging out of my squadron when i got mine....so maybe it was different... but to my understanding now one in 573 has written a test to get there WOs, if you look at it, promotions are based at camps and medals.... mine's still in the mail

For my WO1 test, I had to write a complete parade procedure (this is long to write), to write a SMEACC for the organizsation of a Ceremoinial parade. I had some situation study (they explain you a situation ie: you 2ic tell you that he want to leave cadet because X officer is ******* him off because he is always on his case. And then, you have to write what you think you should do.

PLus we have a written drill exam and we also have a normal theoric test. And most thing are from Level 4 and 3... anyway. Up to that point, level 1,2,3 stuff is just normal knowledge.

My squadron usualy does really hard exams...

I am another who doesn't really see the point of WO promotion tests. I believe the whole point of BEING promoted to a Warrant Officer is that you are the most knowledgeable and qualified to achieve that position. By the time you are even up for a WO promotion, most have been through at least three years of cadet training and have gone on either summer courses or scholarship courses. The combination of the two (LHQ and summer training) should more than prepare a cadet to have the capability to fulfill the responsibilities that being a WO entails. Also, in most squadrons, once you get up there in the ranks, the officers know who is capable of what and who deserves awards and rewards. That principle comes from the level two handbook, "Know your cadets and look after their welfare." But that being said, every squadron is different, and I know how insanely busy officers in a squadron can be. So, now for my Final Thought (TM Jerry Springer). I can see where WO testing can be of purpose, but in most scenarios promotions should be given to the most deserving and qualified - a trait not necessarily distinguishable from a piece of paper.

I think I made a pretty big mistake. I signed up for the SWO position and I'm competing against two WO2....your wondering what's so big about that, well I'm a sgt. which kind of makes it hard for me....well anyways wish me luck for 19sqn SWO. :(

Benjo, did you revive this thread for a reason, such as you want some advice or help in getting this position? Or did you just want everyone to know.

Please don't bring up older threads that everyone has stopped replying to unless you have a good reason to do so.
