View Full Version : IT! has arrived!!!

Bub
22nd June 2005, 23:06
Sean knows what IT is but for those that don't the pictures will tell all......

With the box weighing in at 10kg and at a width, height and depth of 48cm, 40cm and 21cm respectivily; the 3,104 piece LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer is one mean piece of kit! It was sent from the US to me via Canada and Cub's place.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/KiwiBub/LEGO%20ISD%20Project/Lego_ISD_01.jpg

I couldn't for the life of me find my Darth Vader Lego figure, so a Snowtrooper has been hired to oversee the construction of the kit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/KiwiBub/LEGO%20ISD%20Project/Lego_ISD_02.jpg

The Snowtrooper is 4cm high.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/KiwiBub/LEGO%20ISD%20Project/Lego_ISD_03.jpg

I've never had a Lego kit before where it had boxes inside the main box. These boxes are the size of most other Lego kits. Also I've never had a ring bound instruction booklet either.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/KiwiBub/LEGO%20ISD%20Project/Lego_ISD_04.jpg

So it begins....

Glad you guys like it. I might post a few pics of some of my Star Wars stuff later, and yes that kid is Anakin. Just happened to be in a calander that I scavanged for poster pics.

Well to get to this stage here took about 2.5-3hrs. It's sure a mission finding the bit's amoung the 3,000 pieces.

Sorry guys I did alot on Friday but ran out of time to post an update. I've been away all weekend doing my RSO course for cadets. So I can now take cadets shooting :)

Anyway back to the Lego.

Main engines completed and the first major hull section on.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/KiwiBub/LEGO%20ISD%20Project/Lego_ISD_08.jpg

Second major hull section on, you can see here that they use magnets to secure the hull on in places.

From a differant view.

The Tantive IV (Blockade Runner).

The Corvete and the ISD main hull (they are to scale with each other).

This was as far as a got on Friday night before I went away. It's now completed but I'll post those pics up later.

theres instructions.....

Where is the adventure in using those??? Real men don't use instructions... they spend months trying to put things together without them only to have their partner crack it with the mess and sit down and piece it together in a few hours with the instructions.

seand
27th June 2005, 21:55

Well be my guess in trying to build this with out instructions. I believe the box has 16+ years on it. That would be the time it would take you to build it without instructions....

Anyway the finished pics.

The base of the superstructure I guess you could call it.

A Death Star you say? something like this (http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=10143&cn=8&d=5&t=3)? (Due Sep '05, at 3,400+ pieces).

And of course the retired Blockade Runner (http://shop.lego.com/RetiredProducts.asp?p=10019).

Well... I decided to throw a toy of mine in the fray guys, just to show that I'm a nerd model builder too :p

It's in it's US Cam at the moment. Tis what it was in when I bought it. It's got the lighter shade of khaki wheels and tracks on it, because I threw a track climbing it over a pile of rocks. If you think replacing a real bloody tank track is hard, try replacing two of these! :p

Anyways... that's my toy :)

Bub
26th July 2005, 18:33
Sweet, you can buy ones here that shoot little bb pellets.

Morrison
28th July 2005, 06:37
I was just telling Sean that these babies are completely mod-capable. They can take on board anything, if they are handled by someone with the technical knowledge and know-how. It's a fun project. Eventually, when I get the cash and get bored enough, I'm throwing in a 7200 rpm electric motor, so the turret spins uber fast ;)

Bub
28th July 2005, 19:21
Cool, then stalk ppl in the house...

hartleymartin
29th July 2005, 01:44
I can see things like them turning into miniature machines of war... wait a sec... they are!

Going to install multi-view cameras so you can wage miniature warfare against other people? I know that for a while now there have been miniature ships which fire BB's at eachother.

Morrison
31st July 2005, 08:17
Hey. I could install a small CCTV camera I have. I'd have to wire it up to a transmitter, and then to a reciever tuned into my TV Card on the computer... but that'd take too much time.

Oh, and I already stalk the dog with it. I try not to now though, since he left chew marks on the turret. I bought a replacement for $40. The rogues... :(

Bub
31st July 2005, 16:03

seand

Easy way to fix that… wrap a charged wire around the tank…. Fido wont bite it a second time! ;) Then again, if you didn’t shoot Fido in the first place….

Morrison
31st July 2005, 21:06

And Fido (Terra actually) was never shot with a BB. It's not modified to fire yet!

Excellent LEGO kit Bub - a job well done!

The link you provided for the Death Star II had the cost quoted in Canadian dollars - any reason there isn't a distributor more in your neck of the woods?

How much did it cost for an oversized package that weighed 10 kilos to be shipped to Kiwi-land??

seand
4th August 2005, 22:14
To answer in Bub’s absence… When he orded the Star Destroyer, it actually ended up significantly cheaper when all costs were included (freight, exchange rates, etc), to have a family member who lives in Canada to order it and have them mail it to him in New Zealand, than it was for him to order it form Lego NZ.

Crazy but true.

hartleymartin
5th August 2005, 04:46
Its a crazy-mixed-up world.

I bought an ex-RN PO's jacket on Ebay for 1 British Pound (about $2.45 Australian) I had to pay about 10 pounds postage, so a $2.45 jacket ended up costing about $30. I'm still pretty happy that I got it for only $30 all up though.

If I had the money I'd so be back into the Lego! At the moment most of my money is going on my new Drum and Fife. Once that is paid off, I am spending more money on my model railways. You would have thought that I would stick with HO scale in my financial situation, but NO! I had to fall for the big O scale stuff which is about 8 times as big (and as expensive!).

Yeah Sean has pretty much nailed it on the head. But it's just by pure chance that you also happen to be in Canada. The site automaticaly sets the delivery location based on your location. Though you can change this.

As for postage I can't rem on the cost but it took less the 4-5 days to ship from Canada to NZ.
