OK, I'm going to give you a few pointers,
Firstly, the course is not difficult if you make an effort. Listening and participating is all you need, and you should pass that easily.
Secondly, brush up on your marching and other drill, you'll do a lot of it.
Thirdly, if you have spare time, use it to polish shoes, do ironing, cleaning, or whatever. You'll have less little things to do at crunch time.
Lastly, listen to your course staff. They know their stuff, they've been where you are, and getting on their good side makes life really easy.
Finally, good luck. Courses are some of the best parts of being cadets, and a lot of the people you meet will be friends with you for a long time.
Yeah what he said, I hear the JLC is going back to some of it's older glory days next year :)

It's simple and easy!
I loved all my promotions courses on cadets, and my skills courses.
5 simple steps to survive, complete and ACE promotions courses;
1 - Be PREPARED! If this means reading up on your ranks, traditions, uniform requirements, drill techniques, formalities etc etc, do it. Bring exactly what is on your list, and bring spares! Don't be afraid to ask the NCO's of your unit about their experiences on promotions courses. They'll be stacked full of information regarding them.
2 - Be optimistic and enthusiastic. Remember, you've been selected to go on the course because of your existing leadership potential. If you're openly coherent and co-operative throughout the entire course, you'll absorb everything you've been taught, and make a fantastic impression on your course staff and your fellow course-mates.
3 - Be involved, but reserved. If there is one thing that impresses staff and cadets alike, it's an active and involved member of the course. Joke around when appropriate, make a surefire attempt to interact with as many of your course-mates as you can, but maintain your level of professionalism about you at all times. Respect where earnt and all that.
2 - Be open to change/adaption. You'll find you'll mix with a LOT of other cadets from other units and they all do things differently. There is a uniform standard of training across the board in all Cadet Corps, but all the old-schoolers know that this is never the case. Learn as much as you can from other people, and impart your own knowledge, skills and wisdom upon them.
1 - ENJOY YOURSELF! Some of the best memories of my teenage life come from cadet courses and camps! I've met so many amazing people on courses, and they are still close friends to date. On my Seniors Course, I started the idea of all singing our coursebooks. Everyone in our course signed each other's book and we all exchanged numbers and it's great to catch up with them this far down the track.

Kate, do you realise how little sense that makes?
Also as an AB the only thing that would even remotely resemble a promotion course that you would have had the opportunity so far to attend is the Leadership Weekend which isn't actually a requirement for promotion to LS and is conducted at local level (within the region) rather than at State or National level. The ANC does very little in the way of promotion courses compared to our other coloured bretheren, even our PO course is somewhat lighter in intensity than the courses for the AAFC & AAC.

Now... you can send the stars to my home address if you like? :)
As for you Sean... I CAN be worldly and wise, but I choose to refrain... after all, Jeremey is the geriatric, we have to at least let him have the chance to prove he's useful for SOMETHING! :D

Definitly take an Iron if you can. What dates are your course and it's location?

You only have to have your full for 2 yrs here and maybe have to be over 20 to take an L plater driving.

Just don't get Kass, Cub or Chez to teach you (refer to my Aussie trip in Feb).

Bub, legally speaking you only have to have a full licence in Australia (so 20-21yo) but as I found out a couple of days ago the insurance companies have a clause buried in their policies that denies covered if the supervising driver is not at least 29.

If your sister was a JNCO in the AirTC, ask her all about promotions courses!
As for bringing an iron, most definately. Bring absolutely EVERYTHING you have on your equipment list, and as I said earier, if possible, bring spares. Within reason. You don't need two irons etc :p
flossytoo
5th July 2005, 20:20
lol,
my sister was um how do i put this long term field promoted!
I'll have to either borrow an iron from the stores or steal mums one...
Morrison
6th July 2005, 19:55
Bah. Steal your Mum's. It's easier! :p
DaveKeane
6th July 2005, 23:08
and typically you can be sure that your mums iron hasn't been broken into the permanently too hot position.
seand
7th July 2005, 15:25
Plus, given the right timing, you can steal it, be gone, and get back once she isn't angry anymore! ;)
Very true...
Or you could put across the case that she wouldn't need to do any ironing for a week ;)
